Holidays and Dog

We are away for a couple of weeks to seek some warmth. I'll leave you with some Dog tales and photos.

I just thought of this as I pondered this post an hour ago. 'Tradie Brother, given Dog is a female, shouldn't she be called ...?' Well, it is not like she is ever called by name yelled across a park as she can't hear and so it is pointless. She would only be referred to in the third person by that name.

Sister saw a dog wearing a coat emblazoned with Deaf Dog on both sides and suggested to Tradie Brother to buy one for Dog, which he did. But he has judged it too warm for summer and the 'seamstress' at his local football club offered to make Dog a light summer coat with Deaf Dog, for a price of course. So Dog will have a light Deaf Dog summer coat to wear when out and about.

Dog is such a well behaved lass. Obedient enough when there is facial contact and hand movements. Her eyesight and alertness seems to be very well developed to ameliorate the effects of her not being able to hear. She is constantly visually scanning.

Tradie Brother bought a vibration collar, mainly to use to get her attention if off leash. It was a disaster. Dog hated it and panicked. TB said it set her training right back.

While Dog is ok at home alone, if in a strange place tied to TB's car outside, she whines a bit and occasionally barks as she constantly scans for TB, her pack leader.

TB and his daughter Hippie Niece with Dog as she flies through the air along the local beach shoreline behind running Hippie Niece.

Dog is probably pleased to be in her safe space of TB's work car as they departed, but somewhat curious about the people she met at Little L's second birthday.

See you all in a couple of weeks.

  8. She is a nice looking dog. What name did you decide for her that she will never hear?

  9. Hopefully, the advanced sense of smell makes up for the dog's hearing loss.

  15. Calling a dog, Dog seems a bit weird to me. It's like having a son and calling him Boy. Have fun in this warmer place you are going to. Is it Hell?

  17. I have heard that white dogs -- boxers and bulldog breeds, particularly -- have a tendency to be deaf. No idea why that is. I like Dog's coat(s) but I think she needs a new name!
