ABC 3

Last ABC post for a while.

Me: Grand Stunt has been appointed as permanent host of Q & A. (Kind of an audience participation tv current affairs show that has rotating three hosts, David Spears and Virginian Trioli in the role too).

R: You mean Stan Grant. Why do you persist with silly word play Andrew? It drives me mad.

Me: Yeah. Whatever. I don't like his tabloid manner of presentation nor his hectoring style.

R did agree with my opinion of  Grant. For an ABC presenter to be embraced by an ABC audience is a wonderful thing. While they can expect every word they say to be scoured over and heavily criticised frequently and often, they will be loved and respected for their broadcasting or presentation skills.

To put it bluntly, Grant is too much like a commercial media programme host and I doubt he will ever be embraced by ABC viewers. There is the very odd occasion when I am wrong, but it is rare.

Why did I say hectoring? Do I know what it means, even though I said it? Let me check.

Apparently I do. From Miriam Webster. Yep, that's it. Hectoring was the correct word to use.

to behave in an arrogant or intimidating way to play the bully SWAGGER

to intimidate or harass by bluster or personal pressure.

Yep, that's Grand Stunt Stan Grant.

  1. I don't watch a lot of television so don't think I have seen him. I do read his articles. And yes, you are right. He has some worthwhile points to make but does hector. And assume superiority.

    1. EC, yes superior is a word that comes to my mind. I just don't like his style.

    1. Peta, that's so interesting about his father. How various media people deal with interviewees who won't directly answer is always interesting. I think Sarah Ferguson does a good job with that.

  5. I still get angry that talking heads are revered and assumed to have knowledge. Seeing their faces on the telly every night does not even mean they are educated. Someone needs to tell them.

    1. In their defence Caro, they are usually quick thinking people, even if not well educated on a subject. Some commercial tv presenters are truly awful, and we won't mention Sky.

  6. He doesn't have a very sympathetic look about him. He looks a tad arrogant.

    1. Definitely arrogant Cro. Funny that you can pick that up from my words and a photo.

  7. You will just have to find something else to watch, Andrew. You can't just sit there and swear at the TV for the hour the show is on. Think of your blood pressure. Read a book.

    1. River, I am normally composing brilliant blog posts when he is presenting, so I only half watch him. I've stopped reading at night, mainly because I don't remember what I've read.

  8. I recall Stan Grant the Aboriginal person, rather liked him when he was younger but wasn't wrapped in him when he became cocky and older..

    1. Absolutely right Margaret. I too liked him more when he was younger.

  9. Stan Grant is seemingly more preoccupied by theocratic Christian belief than first nation identity. The recent episodes of Q&A have revealed this clearly.

    1. I will have to watch for this Roentare and that's interesting. He has worn his first nation status on his sleeve for a long time.

I think we should complain about the likes of Andrew Bolt, Peta Credlin rather than Stan..lol

    1. My opinion is that it better not to engage with people like Bolt and Credlin, as much as I would like to call them stupid effwits.

    1. No Gattina, he is not my favourite. I guess everywhere has media presenters who some people don't like.

  12. Stan is certainly not my man…..years ago he was quiet and unassuming yet knowledgeable in certain subjects. Now he’s just a Pain in the A - a bloody old know it all….on every subject raised. I don’t watch if he’s involved- or deary speery either. LaTrioli gets my goat as well!
Bring back Barry and Tony please.
