Roe v Wade

I quote Canadian Jenny on this. If she is correct, fine. It could be 25%, 30% or one third of US citizens who believe Trump was cheated out of winning the election. One despairs about what is happening in the most powerful and richest country in the world

Cat Woman in Oregon posted this rant from a very sensible person. I hope it goes viral and I want as many people to watch it as possible. I don't know who Ana is nor if she is a person of influence, but I hope she is.

I have a compromise to promote in the U,S Supreme Court. If a woman is forced to go through a pregnancy, and labour that she doesn't want, then the male has to be forced to lose both balls/orchiectomy. It won't stop unwanted pregnancies into the future, but it may make men stop and think.

    1. Sorry, it came up as anonymous.

    2. Hels, having sex is mostly a mutual arrangement. I think men telling women about what to do with their bodies is the real point.

  2. Well said Ana Kasparian! She is so right and kudos to her for speaking up like that! Thanks for sharing this Andrew. Let's hope that Australia and Great Britain remain in the enlightened modern world in relation to abortion rights. We don't want to go back into the darkness where America is heading.

    1. YP, the time of illegal abortions was terrible. I think Ireland has now sorted out the legalities. I hope so.

  3. The Bible was written so long ago, it simply doesn't relate to many of today's problems/lifestyles etc.

    1. River, all I can say is that the bible was a work of well imagined fiction.

    2. A big fat family Bible is useful as a doorstop.

    3. I think so YP.

  4. I totally agree that the bible was a work of fiction. I fear for my country as it votes more and more conservatives into power. BTW the FreeDumbConvoy is planning some shenanigans for the upcoming Canada Day in Ottawa.

    1. Jackie, I hope it is just a cycle your country is going through. It happens. We had the most wonderful Canada Day in Whistler. Flee to the west coast.

  5. OMG Andrew I posted this on FB this morning. Up here in the Great White North we are gobsmacked at this disdain for women's rights. Handmaid's Tale in the flesh as predicted by Margaret Attwood. 2022. Fundies win the day with their guns and forced births.

    1. WWW, I wanted to put it on my FB but I know R would not approve. I hope it is a short win for Fundies and common sense and decency will prevail.

  6. It is an unbelievably straight forward clip that states clearly exactly how many of us, in the closet here as non religious, feel. The climate is hostile to science, sensibilty and freedom now, in the US.

  7. I LOVED this clip when I saw it on Strayer's post. Well said. I also notice that the 'rights' of the unborn child stop at birth. No additional funding is provided to ensure that it (and its mother) have enough money to pay for food/accommodation/health...

    1. Quite so EC, and if you remember a cartoon River put up of dead children when the remark along the lines, well, they are already born. No need to protect them.

  8. I am not surprised by what is happening in the U.S. -- not after Trump was elected and everything that followed -- but I am stunned by its rapidity and the implications for the future. I believe we are seeing the United States heading into serious decline, barring a tremendous effort from Democrats in the next election. I just hope Canada doesn't get sucked into the vortex. The woman in the video is absolutely right on.

  9. I want to hug and kiss that woman. I feel exactly the same as her. If you don't mind, Andrew, I might post that video on my page too. It needs to be said as often as possible (and listened to).

  10. I cannot tell you how disappointing it is. I hope that this leads to a powerful backlash against the Republican party that takes them generations to fight their way back from.

If Clarence Thomas wants to revisit these decisions, I suggest he take a look at Loving. Or Gaines vs. the State of Missouri.

    1. Debby, I really hope it is just a temporary blip. A backlash would be great.
