TV Repeats

It is a non rating tv and radio period in Australia so we get many repeats of tv shows including the very good 'A Very English Scandal' which is not bad to half watch with its repeat broadcast. We've seen it before. A young man was bare topped.

Me: He was young in this.

R: Yes.

Me: His name starts with W. Wiseheart or something like that.

R was not that interested and put his tablet earplugs back in. I was not deterred. I consulted my Celebs File compiled over twenty plus years but not really added to of late. I knew his last name began with W. There you go. Wishaw, Ben. I told R. R took out his earphones and I repeated myself.

Me: Ben Wishaw is his name.

R: Ok. Yes, nice.

Me: He has a big cock, but a hung slim smooth young man would not interest you, hey hon?

R: Of course not. Let me see.

Lies are part of daily life. 42 years ago R was very interested in an above described young man, though rather less hairy.

  1. I don't know An English Scandal (the show) or the actor. I am obviously deprived.

  8. I remember him first as John Keats in Jane Campion's "Bright Star" - quite a gorgeous film and he wasn't bad either. (Also Abie Cornish - remember her? - as Fanny Brawne.

Whishaw will have been 36 or 37 by the time A Very English Scandal was filmed, assuming it was in 2017 (2016 book, 2018 release). I remember thinking it a bit of a stretch for Whishaw to play Norman Scott when young, but acceptable given that the action stretched from 1961 to 1979.

    1. MC, I didn't see it. Ms Cornish I don't know at all.

It's terrible how short my memory is now, but in spite of his age, I thought he fitted the part well enough.

    2. Don't you remember Wildside? Noirish-saxophone-themed 90s gritty crime drama. She was just a girl in that - Rachael Blake's character's daughter. Then when just a bit older a film Somersault, set in Jindabyne. Also Candy with Heath Ledger as a fellow heroin addict. Maybe I remember Candy more than you might because there were some scenes filmed in Petersham Park just across the road from where I once lived. Heath's character was turning tricks or maybe just robbing them at a beat/toilet in the park (which was indeed a beat but a few years earlier).

    3. PS: I thought Whishall was good. Norman (his character, real life person, getting on now) wasn't so happy about his portrayal but his beef was more with the script. Judging from real life photos, whatever the, ahem, endowment aspect, Norman was more of a hunk than Whishall.

    4. Got her now MC. She did not create a lasting impression on me, I suspect because I was so focused on....you guess.

    5. LOL. Meanwhile, just mentioning you can probably see "Bright Star" on Netflix or somewhere like that if you want to see Whishaw when (even) younger and, dare I say, rather gorgeous (as the film is, generally). It's very much about the poetry. I don't recall so much about the, ahem, ....

  9. Wish is an excellent actor (quite apart from being physically well-endowed ,reportedly (by you)) but I never thought of him as handsome.
Happy New Year! - very belatedly.
