Friday Funny

By the time a new coalition government is formed in Germany, there is a good chance Angela Merkel will be the longest serving Chancellor of Germany, exceeding Helmut Kohl. I instinctively disliked her initially, being of a party called Christian Democrats. Oh, religion in the party name! I am not keen on that.

Who would have thought she would go on to be one of the most powerful political leaders in the world.

The Merk is such an interesting person because she is so uninteresting. Germany does have a little history with 'interesting leaders'. For nigh on twenty years the uninteresting Merk has ruled with aside from admitting a large number of Arab refugees, without great controversy, and Germany remained prosperous. You really have to respect her for presiding over a generally stable and prosperous Germany.

Nevertheless, no politician can't have the piss taken out of them. As usual before publication I've watched this several times and each time, I am still amused, this last time by the final line. Viewing time, 2.45, Tracy Ullman playing both roles.

  1. Thank you for the HUGE grins this clip produced. And yes, some eye rolling is totally forgiven.

    1. EC, The Merk is so grounded and without pretence, her eye rolling at the antics of Trump and Putin can easily be forgiven.

  3. Very funny. Tracy Ullman is brilliant. Merkel is a good politician. Not after the lime light but looks after her country. Wish there were more like her regardless of the party they lead.

    1. Caro, I think that is why she is so respected. She doesn't seem to perform on stage as most politicians do.

    1. Dora, you will agree it is fine for people to be religious, but we don't need to know about it.

  5. Must have done a good job as she has been there a long time. Never did find out what all that shaking those couple of times I saw was due to! Grinned whilst watching that video.

  6. As usual in her Merkel sketches, she had me laughing out loud. Very good.

    1. Cro, even if she didn't roll her eyes at some political leaders, she would be quite justified in doing so.

  7. I knew nothing about Ms Merkel's early career, until she reached the position of Chancellor. But just last week we saw THE LIFE AND TIMES OF ANGELA MERKEL on Four Corners, which was excellent. What a great woman.

    1. Hels, I knew she lived modestly, came from the east and was scientist or something like that. Four Corner's programme about her was great.

  9. You say Mrs Merkel is uninteresting but what about your Mr Morrison? He's about as interesting as a small dog turd in a black plastic bag floating down Woon Yallock Creek.

    2. Close YP. Woori Yallock Creek. But he never comes to the second largest state as aside from with the rusted on, he is not really welcome. The Merk is uninteresting in a good way. Our PM is uninteresting, because he is uninteresting.

  12. Although I am still German at least o my passport I have never lived in Germany as an adult so I only know what they say here about the German politics. I am anyway not interested in politics it's in all countries the same ! But I really like Angela, first it was very good that she became the first female leader amongst all the machos and I really regret that she leaves and is not replaced by a women. Women are more reasonable in politics than men !

    1. Gattina, generally I agree with you about women in politics. They are more for consensus and less to oppose for the sake of it. The German Greens candidate is a woman, but I am not sure if she is running or has been replaced.

  13. What you don't mention is she has a doctorate in quantum chemistry and was a research scientist before her politic life.

Ever since her various meetings with Trump (how he despised her) she has gone upwards in my esteem. She showed contempt without showing it if you know what I mean.

Tracey has done a marvelous job in her impersonations a few times.

    1. WWW, it is a rather curious career path. I think her showing contempt without showing it is really what Trump would have been upset about.
