Monday Mural

Joining with Sami and others for Monday Mural.

Our Friend in Japan sent me these two photo of a building in her home town in the north of Japan. Here we know solar panels are placed on roofs, but why not put them on the façade of buildings facing the direction of the sun? It is hardly an attractive building, so nothing is spoilt.

Good idea, hey.

But what do we have at the base of the building at street level? A mural and a rather fierce one at that.

  1. An excellent idea to put the solar panels on the side of the building. I love the mural too. Fierce yes, but he is smiling too.

  3. Too bad solar panels can't somehow turn to always face the greatest sun. Or maybe some do.

    1. Strayer, yes some do rotate to face the sun but they are rare.

That mural shows the local summer festival - Nebuta. It's held every night during the first week of August and is a lot of fun! Many of the floats (which are 3D) depict old Japanese and Chinese myths so there are lots of demons, dragons, snakes, maidens and so on. Bunyip

  6. excellent paint job on the mural, but not something I'd want on my fence. Solar panels, on the other hand, might be a good idea on all north and west facing fences as well as walls of houses or other buildings. No need to cover the wall, just put a row or two of panels between windows or something. and don't let your kids play cricket in the yard anymore in case they break the panels....

    1. River, yes, those walls could have solar panels. No 100 runs in the back yard at Mum's though.

  7. Wasn't there a trans-Oz car race for solar powered cars? Maybe all car bodies should be made from solar panels.

    1. Cro, it did not happen last year for obvious reasons but yes, it is an annual event. The cars aren't practical but I think the information gained from the solar car race is invaluable

  9. Sodding brilliant! I agree with you totally that solar panels could be placed on the façade of buildings facing the direction of the sun! And there is no reason why the facade cannot be presented attractively.
