We will travel

We've booked a holiday. Barcelona? Porto? Prague? London? Las Vegas? San Francisco? Hawaii? Catch up with JayLa in Budapest?

Nah, the government says no and none are COVID safe yet anyway.

Echuca is in the north of our state of Victoria. We don't normally like straying far from the sea for a caravan park cabin holiday but we are, although we will be on the banks of the mighty Murray River that divides the states of Victoria and New South Wales. Tricky point. If the borders are closed between the two states, can we take a paddle steamer lunch cruise on the Murry River which is officially in NSW?

As COVID waxes and wanes in Australia and state lock downs happen, we are not leaving our state.

We were looking for a local holiday for next week but everything was pretty well booked out. Instead we have booked for the first week in March.

We will stay three nights in Echuca and visit Step Mother and her partner who is in his 90s and not terribly well and they live twenty minutes drive from Echuca. Echuca is an interesting town and a damn lot cheaper to stay in that our seaside towns.

Something to look forward to.

  1. I am going to drive to a neighboring town to pick up 80lbs of chicken breasts for the freezer. I feel like the hobbit setting out on a quest. Out of my way, people, there's adventure to be had!

  2. Echuca means "meeting of the waters" in the language of the Yorta Yorta Nation. It sounds like a lovely place to be but please don't light a campfire or drop a cigarette butt.

    1. YP, I had to check and you are correct and I didn't know that was where the Campaspe flowed into the Murray.

  3. Darling Andrew,

Now, catching up with us sounds great. Cannot wait....

All you have to do is have the correct papers for border control [never a possibility in ordinary times], dodge the curfew [not possible as enforced by the army and police with stringent fines]find a plane [none except the local carrier landing at present]and find somewhere to stay, eat and drink [not possible as lockdown throughout Budapest].

The government has recently announced that all COVID restrictions will remain in place for the foreseeable.

    See you soon!!!

    1. Travel, while I feel a little old for long distance flights, R is becoming quite old and I am really not sure we can do 24 hour international flights anymore.

  7. Absolutely something to look forward to Andrew, if it looks like still no travel mid year we'll definitely be looking to taking a trip down Margaret River way.

    1. Not a bad place to visit at all Grace. Consider going by coach.

  10. Definitely something to look forward to - and as a decidedly armchair traveller I look forward to your reports.

    1. EC, slightly sad as it may be last time we see Step Mother's partner. He can't live for too much longer. Our next trip up north will be for his funeral. I am just being realistic.

  11. I live for the day when I can travel again.
I was due to visit with my daughter and grands, but Jack had a reaction to the Covid Vaccine and so I don't want to leave him alone. They even called from his doctor's office, as they were concerned. Didn't keep him until I could get there, but...
He is now home and sleeping.

    1. Maribeth, how bad was the reaction really? Over it after a good sleep?

    2. He became slightly disoriented. That last about an hour or so and scared us thinking he might be having another stroke! Today he feels tired and his arm is sore. But...if it keeps him from getting that darn virus it will be worth it!

  13. So you won't be beside the seaside, but you will be near water and you'll catch up with step-mother too. Enjoy.

    Enjoy that holiday when you..

    1. Margaret, your state would be good too, but in spite of the car subsidy and the ferry increasing its passenger prices, we will just stay in our state. Last March we said to Lonny friend, same time next year, but it won't happen.
