Most people, I know not all, really like the Art Deco architectural style, but first an update to this post. The sign says; Motor Engineers (and) Panel Beaters.
These are all in the area of South Yarra where I at times ISO walk. Some you may have seen before but you may have forgotten.
This one I have certainly featured before.
You may remember this place when I featured its lamps. I am not sure that it is Art Deco, but what the heck.
I think this fits the bill.
Maybe Modern too. The periods kind of overlap.
The last one you get two for the price of one. Both are a little shabby and could do with a coat of paint.
I do like them all - but the second is my favourite. Kudos to the designer and to the architect indeed.

DeleteArt deco began shortly before World War 1 and ended shortly before the start of World War 11. It gave us so many beautiful designs and styles...beautifully depicted in "The Great Gatsby" movies.

DeleteI lived in an area of much art deco housing in Toronto and absolutely love it. Also hooked on the old art deco movies and clothing and design.

DeleteI'm not a fan of all things deco, but there are things I like that turn out to be deco, usually lamps. One thing I don't like is deco mirrors. The general deco house style is okay to look at.
ReplyDeleteRiver, the lamps can be stunning. I think reproduction Art Deco mirrors rather spoilt it for many.

ReplyDeleteI love the "real" deco, 1925-39. It has to have a smooth external surfaces with no splashes of colour, only linear decorations, no exposed bricks etc. It can be white, light grey, bone or cream (except for Miami Beach etc where they made up their own colour rules).

DeleteI like the rounded shape/look of the first and last photo, not the rather than the square/angular look of 5. That has too modern a look.

DeleteThose last ones would be fabulous if they got a coat of colorful paint a la Miami Beach. I like the Motor Works building too, and yeah, the brickwork on that second one is very interesting and ornate.
