Oh gosh. I said something wrong, apparently putting R down and he exploded. We were talking about a new washing machines and combined dryer and we have decided we will go down this path. I expect he will be ok in the morning. We can't have no speakies for a week when under COVID threat and restrictions.
Better I keep my mouth shut tonight as nothing I will say will be right.
We've been looking online at retail stores that are closed but may open next Monday. We don't know. You can still choose an appliance online and have it delivered. While I will always want to personally shop for clothes and many other things, I think the model of retail stores for electrical appliances is about to be broken. This is why, a copy of the email I sent R.

DeleteI've worked in/adjacent to electrical appliances since I was 13 years old. There is no way I would ever buy a combo machine. :) Those two jobs are very different things and I would want them to be done in separate units.

Snoskred, I know, I know. And we have the space for separate stack units, but we figure it is not a huge amount of money and if in a few years we really don't like it, then can go back to separate units.
DeleteI've bought two washing machines, top loader Samsung and a fridge from Appliance Online. We have been really happy with their good service, however I would look at their laundry packages which offer good deals on washing machines and dryers rather than a combo.

ReplyDeleteIf you have lots of washing to do then you have to wait till the drying is done before you can start washing again.
On the other hand you dont have to get up to move clothes from washer to dryer you can just stay in front of the telly (assuming there is a continuous cycle? surely there must be)

Ian, we don't. Maybe three to four loads a week. Yes it is continuous washing then drying but drying will only be used for socks and jocks, and bedding.

DeleteI wash all shirts, undies, stockings etc in the bath or shower, and on weekends send sheets and towels to the local laundry. I do it to reuse bath water sensibly.

DeleteP.S.I also prefer separate machines, but when space is tight and you don't need to do more than one load on any wash day, the combo should be fine.

DeleteOur Samsung washing machine had to be replaced earlier this year just after three years old. It kept stgopping mid-cycle. At one point we thought we'd solved the problem by recalibrating, but it kept coming back - circuit board issue - repair was too expensive. We got a new Bosch.

DeleteTasker, now you tell me. Here, even though outside the two year warranty period, if a washing machine failed in three years, consumer affairs would be on your side and it would probably be replaced.
DeleteIt was just after three years - as with many other complaints online. It might not be too late to buy an extended warranty. For most appliances they are not worthwhile, but washer dryers are now so 'clever' that they might be justifiable for the peace of mind. We got one for our new machine.

My cousin did not like her 2 in one. She usually goes to the laundry. (There is one in her building) She only used the machine for her undies and socks.

DeleteAfter such an extended period of lockdown I'm not surprised nerves are a bit frazzled. Good luck with your appliances. Another reason we're so happy to rent -- we just call the landlord! (Who fortunately, in our case, is relatively responsive to appliance issues.)

ReplyDeleteGrace, the old dryer was a Simpson and the washing machine a Fisher and Paykel. F&P used to be an NZ company but now owned by the huge Chinese corp, Haier.
