The Black Yoof

Once again Ex Sis in Law's husband was Santa at a large shopping centre for the month or more leading up to Christmas. There haven't been any great stories from him this year except for one whereby a group of the tall lanky black yoof spat at him and one threw chewing gum at him while he was holding a baby.

After Santa went off duty, they returned and trashed Santa's little cave, and then again days later. The shopping centre would have had guards, but they seemed impotent.

Just a day or so ago they killed one of their own, stabbed to death. How many times in my life be they white, black or brindle have I heard mothers say about their sons, he just became mixed up in the wrong crowd. What a waste of a life.

Then another was sentenced to a considerable gaol term after stabbing one of his own young female friends to death, with his mother becoming becoming hysterical in court as the sentence was handed down and was admitted to hospital. The victim was an attractive lass, not that it is relevant.

I don't want to tarnish all the black African heritage yoof with the same brush but we have a serious problem. Many of them were born here, so we can't really send them back home. While they car hijack, invade homes and hurt people, barnstorm shops to steal, have no respect for police or authority and no fear of gaol, it is not a crime problem but a social problem. I don't know an easy answer but to use certain terminology, it has to be a multifaceted approach.

I guess it goes for wider society too. Why have young people lost their fear of authority? By golly, I used to fear the train ticket checker at the station gate when I was a teen.

  1. I think many parents should answer that question, Andrew - after first taking a good look at themselves. They, the so-called "parents", have no idea about parenting...about teaching discipline and respect, not only for others, but of one's own self.

Disrespect, hate, lack of manners, lack of compassion, of empathy...the list goes on and on...are absent in today's society...far too absent.

Parents have to start being figures of authority in the home again. They have to stop allowing their children to rule roost. Be worthy adults raising worthy children to become worthy adults.

The stories you tell here are so, so disheartening...so very disturbing...and every day, unfortunately, we read similar stories in our newspapers, or see and hear about the stories on our TV news bulletins.

I wish I had the answers.....

  2. Lee, where they came from in Africa discipline was strict. Why has it gone wrong here?

Generally I agree with you about slack parenting. Parents should not be a friend to their children, but simply a good role model and a parent who exercises discipline. Of course we who have never had children know all the answers.

    1. I'm not saying, nor am I inferring, I know all the answers, Andrew. I don't...far from it.

But "leniency" seems to be the word of the moment. Teachers are expected to take on the roles that are the jobs of parents. And, just take a look at our soft, weak so-called "justice" system!

The fact that parents are working and don't have time to guide their children isn't an excuse, either. Again, I am not saying I am perfect, or ever being perfect, but all through our childhood...my late brother's and mine...our mother worked constantly...full-time jobs...lengthy hours...and our Nana cleaned the homes of others during school hours, but they still had time, and the desire to teach us the rights and wrongs of being.

    2. It just seems to be as someone who has never had children that I am not really that qualified to comment too much on raising children, except some seem to be getting it rather wrong. Maybe acceptance of bad behaviour when they are young? Just the threat of repercussions was enough to keep us into line when we were kids.

  3. I guess I'm more curious than anything else. I assumed that if race problems existed at all in Australia it would involve the people that are referred to as "aborigines".

Of course, we've had racial tensions here in the United States for the longest time, but those involve the descendants of slaves. Your country's problems in regards to blacks have to do with legal immigration and recent immigration at that. Actually, it reminds me of less of blacks in America than Hispanics, which as you might know Donald Trump has exploited to the fullest. The same criticisms you make I've heard made about Mexican immigrants, legal or otherwise. I think there must be some hidden sociological factor in both my country and yours that's just waiting to reveal itself. When will that happen, I don't know.

    1. Kirk, yes of course we do have an Aboriginal problem but it does not manifest itself so much in our large cities where the population is quite low and well spread out. As I always say, you can't take too many refugees from one area expect them to fit in to a new culture without problems. I don't know why we don't have more of a mix of refugees. It is not like there is a shortage of them in the world. It is usually something that sorts itself out with the next generation. Fingers crossed.

  4. Yet another area where I wish I had answers rather than questions. Lots of questions.

    1. EC, it's a hard one and I feel very bad for those young people who aren't trouble makers and yet get harassed by the police because of their race.

  6. It is very complex. For instance is there overt or covert racism in dealing with blacks? Have other races being assimilated into Australia? Is there a general dissatisfaction with the opportunities afforded to get ahead? Are the women being educated and encouraged in this. A root cause (among many) of poverty and anger in black youth is teenage pregnancy - children having children.

    1. WWW, certainly covert but by those in authority and generally, not overt. Of course there are racists who will be overt. White people came to Australia in about 1780. Chinese for the early to mid 19c gold rush, among others. Jewish between the two wars and post WWII refugees, along with many many Mediterraneans. Very few problems. Post Vietnam War, many many from South East Asia, generally ok aside from some drug issues but it was kept pretty well among themselves. Lebanese after the war in Lebanon, somewhat problematic and still can be. Free settling Egyptians up to a decade or so ago. Not sure about now. Now many from mainland China and primarily, the Indian subcontinent, but they are well educated etc. I am unsure if we are taking many from the Horn of Africa now, but we are taking some Iranian and other Middle Eastern refugees. I am not sure that there is pregnancy problem with the African youth. I don't think so.

  7. It is the same here too. No, I do not understand it at all. Sad, really. Yet there are some people who feel they are above the law, the rules and all of us.

    1. Maribeth, so many just have no respect for other people's property or the law at all, full stop. None at all.

  8. Andrew, I have an Aussie friend who campaigns tirelessly to let all immigrants into Oz. I keep telling her to beware of what she wishes for. The warnings were ignored in the UK, and what you describe above is now sadly a daily occurance. What a reputation they are carving for themselves and their ilk.

    1. Nor is France immune from what I've heard happens on the outskirts of Paris. We can't cope we with the numbers of people here now, let alone increasing the population in a bizzare Ponzi scheme.

  9. I'm sure this began in the 70s or thereabouts when people began to not discipline their children because they didn't want them to feel inhibited and restricted. It has ballooned way out of proportion and these days if you even try teaching self restraint and respect for others ie: discipline, the kids know they can contact social workers and get the parents told off or watched. Remember the story of a young child who divorced his parents (or some such rubbish) because they wanted him to eat his peas? it's all way out of hand now, and those of us who were raised to respect others and raised our children the same can do nothing but despair over it.

    1. River, very much as you say, but the majority of kids turn out ok, so there is something else going on with the ones I am talking about.

  10. There are as many white criminals as black once ! The color doesn't matter. Only we make less fuss when it's a white man who stabbed his whole family as it happened last week here. If you look a bit arabic you are automatically a terrorist ! The Italians belong all to the Mafia and I was a left over (or am) of Hitler's spleen, tall and blond !

    1. Gattina, yes and here there are far more white people than others, but the crime rate among this group of people is very disproportionate.
