Grumpy old man
I am in a grumpy mood as I post this. Somewhere on this box of dishwasher tablets, I expect it says, There may be some settling of contents, but it will be in print too small for me to read without a magnifying glass. I can wear this settling of contents a little with some foods in boxes like cereal but not with solid dishwashing tablets. The box was just over half full. That they are probably the cheapest dishwasher tablets that can be bought, at 14 cents each.........ah sorry, that we bought the dearer ones at 17 cents each, is not the point. It is clearly deceptive to pack a solid product in a box almost twice the size of what is needed. Bad form Aldi. Yes, this is the full box.

I am often a confirmed member of the Grumpy Clan (and always of the old clan). And yes, shame on Aldi. Settling I can cope with. Lies make me grumpy.
ReplyDeleteEC, it is lie. No mistake about that.
DeleteI agree!! In a society were we are supposed to care about the amount of waste we make; packaging gets larger and contents smaller! The companies should be fined if there is extra space in the box!! It is wasteful deception!! Crazy world we live in today....
ReplyDeleteAnnsterw, a third of the cardboard could have been saved. Multiply that out, how many trees could have not been felled.
DeleteBad Bad Leroy Brown and Bad Dab Aldi too.
ReplyDeleteForsythia, very bad bad Aldi.
DeleteWould it have felt any better if you'd bought two packets and tipped all the contents into one? Actually, I bet they've thought of that and put in just enough so that they just wouldn't quite fit.
ReplyDeleteTasker, correct. The box would have just overflowed, although I am very good at fitting things in where they won't fit.
DeleteWouldn't it be great if we could legally take back all the packaging to the supermarket for them and the manufacturer to deal with and recycle. I think there would be a change in the way they operate if they were made accountable.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. We could save up our packaging, then take it all to the huge supermarket dumpster. Just don't get caught.
DeleteCheryl, we would have to pay more when we buy, but so be it. We need to deal with our waste.
DeleteRiver, I reckon dump it all is the aisles so that it is very visible.
DeleteNot to mention those crisp bags, I open them in disbelief. It's all about deception if they can get away with it.

WWW
WWW, I wear a little of settling of contents with crips, but it goes way too far, often a packet only half full.
DeleteYou opened it the wrong way, the box is supposed to double as a cat bed.
ReplyDeleteAh, thanks for the explanation Cro. It now makes sense, not.
DeleteVery bad form Aldi, although Cro above me here makes a good suggestion. All you need is a cat. The other thing I don't like about Aldi is what I saw on TV about the way the treat their truckers and the loading docks where deliveries are supposed to get unloaded. Often filthy, with no protection from the weather, sometimes the men have to stand in muddy puddles and always they are told to be on time, while the time they are given is never long enough so they have to speed or drive through the night etc, going without sleep. I'll never shop there again.
ReplyDeleteRiver, it is not big enough for a cat, but then cats do like to squeeze into small spaces. I haven't seen that story. That sounds really bad. I know what it is like and the temptation to be on time, but drivers should follow the rules and have proper rest. Perhaps we need to look really closely at Aldi.
DeleteI would be grumpy too.
ReplyDeleteMerle.....
Merle, you can be an honorary grumpy old person.
DeleteDeceptive packaging has always been a gripe of mine.
ReplyDeleteMine too Maribeth.
DeleteMaybe they need a bit of 'breathing' space Andrew.. you're right, it's ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteGrace, I expect someone at Aldi might come up with a reason like that.
DeleteMr. G is always grumpy when he has to read a notice which is printed in mini size an you really need a magnifier. I still can read it, so he thinks that I am his magnifier ! Easy for him !
ReplyDeleteGattina, you are clearly useful to have around.
DeleteIn full agreement - the extra wasted packaging resources is horrifying when you multiply it out. I don't think it's being grumpy to have a legitimate complaint! (that's what husband and I tell ourselves)
ReplyDeleteJenny, the trouble is as we become older we find a lot to complain about, legitimately.
DeleteThat makes me mad, to see that. I hate dishonesty. Even if its in packaging. Makes me want to pitch those pods at the headquarters windows of whomever makes them.
ReplyDeleteNice idea, Strayer.
