We want accommodation at Phillip Island on a long weekend. Our preferred cabin at a caravan park is not available. R found a pretty good cheap hotel right in the centre of Cowes. He focused on price, as we always do. Screw it, we are not so poor. Why are we always looking for the cheap? Why can't we stay somewhere quite nice, even if it costs us. We will look tomorrow morning. R has taken on board about what I said about always looking for the cheap.
At times we have paid a bomb for something or an experience and never regretted it, say like the Grand Hotel in Brighton, England. We must do this more.
My OH is the same - he focuses on price first and then we regret it aterwards and wish we had paid a little more for a more comfortable stay. These days I do the booking and just tell him it was a lot cheaper than I actually paid.
ReplyDeleteJayCee, nice work. Only a small lie.
Deleteyes you must enjoy your life
ReplyDeleteGosia, I am sure you always do things with style.
DeleteAndrew I am not so sure . It depends of corse
DeleteThis is exactly what I say to Jack! He is always looking for the cheap and here it could mean cockroaches or bed-bugs! Ugh! I want a a nice comfortable room and bed. Perhaps a lovely setting. Life is short. Enjoy the beauty around you!
ReplyDeleteMaribeth, you obviously understand. Like I said, we have never regretted when we have paid top dollar for anything.
DeleteI try to balance, some nights in a moderately priced hotels, and a splurge here and there. I have been known extra for a nice view.
ReplyDeleteTravel, a room with a view is worth paying for.
DeleteI totally get it. I like nice things, but I get a rush from finding deals when I can(lol) But when it comes to hotels those rooms have to be spotless, and it's worth the increase. Give me your coupons, military discounts and senior citizen discounts please.(lol) Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteRO, you are the dealer extraordinaire. Bit odd that that three Americans have mentioned cleanliness of rooms. We here would be horrified if a room was not clean, and even in the cheapest accommodation we have stayed in, it has always been clean.
DeleteWhatever your #1 priority is, ensure that is met. For me it would be the hotel or guest house having a beach location. For my beloved, it would be a golf course within cooee.
ReplyDeleteOnly _after_ that preference is fulfilled would it be fair to save money on holiday accommodation.
Hels, Cowes Esplanade is pretty good for us, and we are booked. Not a golf course in sight.
DeleteWe live economically/cheaply most of the time. Splurges happen and have very rarely disappointed.
ReplyDeleteEC, remembering your wild life accommodation stay. How good was that!
DeleteToo right Andrew. If the taxman doesn't get it the family will.
ReplyDeleteMarie, indeed and we don't have children who we feel a need to support.
DeleteLovely accommodation really makes a holiday for me.We bought a caravan, went away in it and once was enough.
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I agree. Yep, although partly to do weather, our campervan holiday was a fail.
DeleteI always look for the cheap options too, and then never go anywhere anyway. I agree with the other commenters though, if you want good digs you have to pay extra.
ReplyDeleteRiver, you should do something special for yourself and actually do it. Spend Lola's cat food money on yourself.
DeleteAbsolutely Andrew, you deserve to be treated now and then ✨
ReplyDeleteGrace, surely I deserve to be treated all the time, as you should be.
DeleteDo it. Have a big fling, a nice place, nice food, do it!
ReplyDeleteStrayer, deal done. $400 for two nights with great sea views and a nice enough room.
