Blame Dora. She mentioned hillbilly in a comment. Go on. Click play. You can't resist .It doesn't start until about 30 seconds and bonus, the closing credits and perhaps like me you have forgotten the very last bit about who made the film.
I kind of liked Jethro, actor Max Baer Jnr, back then. Not sure why now. His father was a boxer and also named Max Baer. Now he was a rather handsome man in my opinion.
WWW, well I won't ask your age, but I was pretty young when this type of show was on tv, and I enjoyed them. Somewhere along the way I stopped liking US tv and movies.
I used to LOVE that show, I might have to look it up and see if I can get a dvd copy. Jethro was nice looking enough, but not really handsome, I remember I used to like Granny with her boots, shotgun and 'old farm' attitude.
I didn't like very many American tv programmes back then, and was encouraged to watch British and Australian shows instead. But now I think it might have been a bit of snobbery - the Clampetts spoke badly, dressed badly and were a bit uncivilised.
Hels, the Clampetts spoke badly, dressed badly and were a bit uncivilised. That was the whole point, they were all of what you say, but seriously rich.
Your handsome man doesn't do it for me.
ReplyDeleteEven my non television watching self remembers the Beverly Hillbillies though.
EC, yes, tv osmosis. I have it now at times.
DeleteA little like Green Acres it was 'simple fun clean television entertainment.
ReplyDeleteAll the cast playing roles they enjoyed - or at least we hope they were
Cathy, they really did seem like they were enjoying themselves. Rather skilled actors actually.
DeleteGawd I'm probably the exception here but I positively hated those kind of shows.
ReplyDeleteSorry.

DeletePersonally, I was more keen on Ellie-Mae (sp?).
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you were Cro. I think that is her voice at the end that says, This has been a Filmways presentation.
DeleteGawd that brought back memories.. good memories that is 😉
ReplyDeleteBroadcast to the deep wilds of Rhodesia, Grace.

ReplyDeleteRiver, wasn't Granny just the best actor? I wonder if she was glamourous in real life?

DeleteAn ok show that was, always got a laugh which is unusual for an American show :)
ReplyDeleteMargaret, it was simpler times. I laughed, as I did at Greenacres, Petticoat Junction and all the similar.
DeleteLove that melodramatic beginning with the globe.
ReplyDeleteI still find that show funny, even if the movie Deliverance does make that particular kind of hillbilly seem a bit dated now.
Kirk, the tv show and Deliverance is pretty well our full knowledge of hillbillies. Well, some mountains called the Ozarks come to mind too.
Deletewe watched this growing up and loved it.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, so many shows from back then we enjoyed.
DeleteWow that takes me back. I loved that series.
ReplyDeleteMarie, rather alien culture for you and for us really.
DeleteI also liked Jethro, long before I understood why.
ReplyDeleteWe won't bring up Flipper then James. Oh, I did in the past and I think it has more comments than any other post.
DeleteI didn't watch many episode of the show.
ReplyDeleteHe had rugged good looks.
Lee, I don't know how many episodes I saw. They kind of all blend together.
