It is a great song, but Shirley Bassey brought the proverbial house down when she performed it at Glastonbury Festival in England. Although it is a terrible recording, I prefer the Glastonbury version to the official recording as it is so much more fun. Shirley has such a powerful voice and did the song great justice and her live performance cheers me no end if I am feeling a little down in the dumps.

Shirley at Glastonbury
I was also a little entertained by Shirley performing at Prince Philip's 80th birthday, which you can see here.
I surprised myself, and am giving my vote to Pink today.
ReplyDeleteSame song, but they speak to very different moods.
EC, don't you think Shirley has a more party voice for the song.
DeleteWOW PINK LADY IS GREAT
ReplyDeleteGosia, 2nd vote for Pink.
DeleteI didn't think so much of the dame's Glastonbury performance, but I did like her studio effort. And in my aged opinion, both of her efforts beat Pink. I
ReplyDeleteRozzie, pleased you liked the Dame. But Pink is a good entertainer too.
DeleteSB has always been a great singer, but I think her energy is waning a bit nowadays. Good to see so many Welsh flags at Glasto.
ReplyDeleteCro, she is eighty now. Glastonbury was I think 2007, so she would have been about seventy then.
DeletePink, well Husband likes her and she is ok by me too.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, it just shows how people's opinion differ. I thought Shirley would be an hands down winner.
DeleteHa! There you go - I don't care for Shirley's voice.
DeleteI haven't seen the Pink clip before, I quite like the song, but not enough to search it out or have it on my playlists. I was disappointed to find the clip quite hard on the eyes, too fast, too many camera angle changes. The Shirley Bassey one was easier to watch and she does have a great voice.
ReplyDeleteRiver, I thought the Pink video was quite awful. How can that be in this day and age.
DeleteP.S. what do you mean by The End, are you not going to post music anymore?
ReplyDeleteNo. Just the end of comparison songs, except I thought of another and then quickly forgot what it was.
DeleteI don't know if I'd heard the Shirley Bassey version before, but I think Pink's version is more "danceable".
ReplyDeleteI love SB voice.
Sami, as the old Aussie expression goes, you are having a bob each way. You like Pink but SB has a great voice.
DeletePut me down as another vote for Pink, she is faaaaabulous! Her concerts are amazing.. so much energy!
ReplyDeleteOk Grace. It looks like I lost.
DeleteI, too, like both Pink and the Bassey. I'm not sure I have ever heard this song before and I really like it. All three videos are entertaining and I especially enjoyed the lively Glastonbury performance. Sadly I couldn't open the birthday clip.
ReplyDeleteThanks Victor. We end on a positive note. Shirley was quite risque for PP's birthday.
