Wong and the kiddies

Our federal conservative governing party has decided that if it cannot get legislation for a plebiscite (kind of an opinion poll and non binding on the parliament) through the parliament for  a vote on same sex marriage, it will conduct a postal plebiscite for which no legislation is required. This is instead of just having an open vote in parliament on the matter. It seems the extreme conservatives within the party wield a lot of power.

Little Jo lives in a very civilised middle class area with high education levels and that she has two mothers and no father has not really being a problem, with more curiosity than anything nasty being said. Not all children of same sex couples have it so easy.

Senator Wong is a parent and in a similar situation with her female partner. I can't say much more than have a listen to Penny Wong in the Senate and hope that you will have nothing to do with legitimising this appalling postal plebiscite that the Liberal Party has come up with. Let it tear itself apart. Clip from The Guardian. 2:17

  1. Hiss and spit. It is an expensive travesty too. And I see that Mr Rabbit is saying vote no - to abolish political correctness.

    1. EC, Rabbit's behaviour has gone from being bad to beyond the pale. He should be booted out of the party.

  2. Plebiscite be damned. Just pass the law already. It isn't going to make a scrap of difference to anyone anywhere if more people who love each other get married.

    1. River, so right. No kittens will be hurt, no tree cut down, no flower spoilt.

  3. I cannot even get started on this particular subject because I am now at the point of such incredible anger at a man I once actually had great hopes for. Malcolm Turnbull has let Australia down in the most enormous ways and I hope someone firmly shoves his Q&A leather jacket squarely up his ass. Sideways.

Whoops, I think I typed that out loud. :)

    1. Snoskred, I know exactly what you mean. He could have beaten the conservatives in his party at the very beginning when he had great public hope and support. He wasted the opportunity.

  4. I really don't understand all the bullshit! Just stop effing around and let people get married if they want to; if they love each other. I don't give a damn if the are male and female; male and male; female and female!

What an effing waste of time and money all of this is!!!! Unbelievable. They're all like a lot of headless chickens running around - on both sides of the fence!

    1. Lee, certainly on both sides of the fence. Who ever believed Gillard when she said that she did not believe in gay marriage. It went against everything she had stood for in her life and it was so obviously a lie, and she was playing some piper's tune.

  5. Thanks for reminding us.... Penny Wong is a wonderful role model for young women. She is wonderful on the law, climate change, feminism, marriage equality, labour rights and every other important social issue.

    1. Hels, I love Wong's public persona, but I do wonder what she is like at home? Too clever by half? Always work focused? Just conjecture. I hope she is wonderful mother.

  6. But Andrew, if the postal plebiscite comes, can you/we really afford to ignore it? You can be sure the no voters won't be.

  8. If the question has to be asked it should have been as part of the census therefore no extra cost. It's ridiculous why it's even a question anyway!
