It would be difficult to say what is right about this commercial from the late 70s. So what happened to RC Cola? Their gross ad that must have cost at least $20 to make was not successful? You will never hear me call anyone ugly. Their is beauty within us all (all you need is good makeup and lighting). However, given their age, I do consider the participants in the commercial are of a very plain appearance. Maybe the ad appeals to straight guys, but it certainly does not to me.
Thankfully I have absolutely no recollection of this ad, tho' the product name rings a bell. Not very cla-RC.
ReplyDeleteI agree that none of the cast members are fugly - they seem just the plain sort of nondescript I can identify with.
Nothing wrong with being plain FC, just don't expect to be on tv and become a celeb.
DeleteEveryone, if they are lucky, have one great, memorable era in their life. For me it was the 1963-69 when everything seemed beautiful, colourful, peaceful. hopeful for women, hopeful for Jews, hopeful for blacks.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the 70s because I was having babies and not sleeping very well. But the enormous optimism of the 60s seemed to have faded.
Hels, mine is probably the early 80s. I had such optimism along with a lack of cynicism, and a little more confidence than I had in the 80s. I suppose you have different sorts of memories when you have babies.
DeleteI loved the 1970s
ReplyDeletePoseidon adventure 1972
Towering inferno1974
Airport 77
I restmy case
John, let me remind of the type of building I live in. Please, no further mention of Towering Inferno. Yep, all good movies but I am not sure I would want to see them now.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall that ad but then I didn't watch a lot of TV in the seventies. It's different to see people at the beach looking natural instead of with a face full of make-up.
ReplyDeleteLike Hels I was having babies in the seventies, so things were a little too busy for much TV. Don't remember losing any sleep though. All my kids were good sleepers.
What irritates me most is the butt crack. I don't care who you are, where you are, what era it is...I do NOT want to see your butt crack.
I agree River. It is not a good look, not matter how hot and desirable the person may be.
ReplyDeleteI would have thought there was lots of spare time when you have babies. You can sit down to feed them and they have to sleep some time.
Haha! That last comment you made above cracked me up.. :))))) Lot's of spare time you say haha! But moving along... I don't remember that ad either, even though I don't drink coke they make excellent ads..
ReplyDeleteGrace, I haven't seen a Coke ad for a long time, but yes, they used to be great.
DeleteFashions change.
ReplyDeleteVictor, so you think the guy might be hot if he was in today's fashion?
DeleteAs a friend of mine is apt to say; provided he is breathing and has a pulse.........
