My parents went on that exact cruise and had the best holiday they have EVER had. Which is saying something since until 3 years ago, they went to Europe every year.
On your days in port, be first in line to disembark. Maximise your time on land, in the truly gorgeous and historic cities along the river.
What is the worst that can happen? You will move into a housing commission flat in old age and live off processed cheese on white bread? Nah
Hels, I have done a lot of research on the cruise and I apart from delays and missed side tours when the river level has been low, not one serious complaint. The nieces' and nephew's inheritance will take a battering.
We did this trip. Its fantastic. The best trip ever although Canada Alaska and USA came close. If you want a preview go to my side bar and click Adventure in Europe 2008. Then go to part 5 Amsterdam to Part 12 Budapest. There are only 150 people on board and there isn't a wait to get off so you don't have to be first. Anyway you are usually asked to meet the tour guide on the dock and they wait for everyone to join the group. You will love it. Take a couple of cards for your camera as you will take thousands of shots. Take a reserve battery too everywhere you take your camera.
JayLa, yes mid 2014. It seems such a long time to wait but that is how it has to be done to ensure a good price and a choice of rooms. Please be aware that we are not particularly cultured but we would very much like to meet you at your favourite people watching coffee supping establishment. It is too early to arrange yet but we plan to add an extra day or two in Budapest as via your good selves, I know there are thing to do and things to see in Budapest.
Remember the old saying 'If you don't travel first clss your relatives will!' This is a beautiful part of the world, I am sure you will hav a fabulous time. You can't put a price on memories.
River, thanks. It is only a river cruise, but hey along the Danube and the Rhine. Actually I shouldn't say only a river cruise. I would not do a sea cruise, but a river cruise stops every day somewhere and there are things to see.
I caused WW I when one evening I expressed doubt about how wise it was to spend so much on a holiday. Then R after booking went into panic mode about the price. There are so many good expressions, but one old one we know, funeral shrouds don't have pockets.
Soooooooooo exciting! Nothing could approximate hell more than an ocean cruise, but this is the sort of trip I drool over when I look at travel ads. Can't wait for the reports :)
FC, I can't wait to see a lock in action. Ah, well I have seen one in Mildura, but I forget how it all worked. The best thing is, it is sending R broke and there won't be any more nagging about going to the US.
Blimey you haven't even left yet and ....'then the fighting started' haha! Seriously you will have a fab time, although how I know this is unclear as I've never been on a cruise!!

DeleteI am not sure what is on the cruise (ship). Is there a pdf version?
ReplyDeleteMichael, I haven't seen a pdf but here is a link http://www.aptouring.com.au/Trips/Europe/EUMC15

ReplyDeleteFun60, I have not heard that expression but I love it and it sums things up perfectly.
DeleteEurope?

I'm so jealous!
And happy for you too.
You're going to have a fantastic time!

ReplyDeleteGrace, I can't find one person who has done the trip or written of their experience who did not like the river cruise. Contrast that to a sea cruise.
DeleteJEALOUS! Aaw. You can have the ship, just drop me off!
ReplyDeleteFen, you could stowaway.
