The boss man won

We have decided to bow out very gracefully from the body corp committee. It is not because we don't care about where we live. It is only about one person on the committee who has put us in this position. He is an ex school teacher and I have had quite a bit of experience with school teachers. I have known many, even my sister is one.

Wwithout exception, school teachers are different people. They need to know that their authority does not extend beyond the classroom. They do know it really, but they cannot help themselves. It is their nature.

  1. That last sentence is so relevant to someone I know.

Oh, that's too bad - I know you enjoyed being on the committee! Didn't anyone try to talk you out of it? Vik.

  3. Yes, it is truly disappointing. Manoeuvres happening behind our back, knowing glances, the 'boss' person playing games. It is only him as the rest are very agreeable but he has taken to 'mentoring' the youngest person in committee and has worked things out very nicely. In case you think the reason we aren't continuing is jealousy or similar, it is not. We just don't have the energy for the games, the politics and the time involved. We could just sit back, attend meetings, say nothing. But if that is the way we have to do it, then we would rather not do it.

Helen, who you probably remember, is also getting very fed up. But it is fortunate that we have her and her husband as building managers. They are running the building very well.

No matter, move on. We may rejoin at a later time. It is not until the AGM in June that we will not renominate for the committee. Just before that, we will probably send a very pleasant email to fellow committee members, thanking them for working in a co-operative spirit and what a pleasure it has been to work with them and for the benefit of the building etc etc. However, we have other things in life that we need to pay attention to and need a break from the committee. Fortunately, there is a precedent for that.

Of course a brave person would make an issue of it at a meeting, but for what point? We have to live here, they are our neighbours, we speak pleasantly to each other still. We are just taking a well earned break after two years.
