Saturday Supplement

AKA, what amused or intrigued me this week.

White Power Australia held a meeting at our St Kilda Beach today, a location set to incite a violent reaction. There were so many police there, that no one behaved too badly. Ostensibly, they are are anti immigration, but in practice they are anti foreign types. After they succeed, they will then come after gays, old people, disabled people...........in fact anyone who is not like their own kind.

Does that ring a bell at all?

Speaking of which, in 1934 the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board received a letter from a German company suggesting that their tram destination product was very superior to what was produced locally and offered its product. The letter concluded with the sign off, Heil Hitler! (sic) I don't think too many Australians would have understood what was to come and it perhaps seemed innocuous at the time.

Meanwhile in the US a newly elected member of parliament has used naughty words in public. C'mon woman, while I love you for it, it is not the American way. You haven't caught up with the news? She said about Trumpet, We will impeach the motherf........ Yes, rather coarse and common, but sometimes you just have to be.

There are huge works affecting a number of train lines in Melbourne at moment, and buses are replacing trains. It seems we have imported a large number of surplus to requirements buses from Brisbane and Perth to cope with the demand.

  1. I hadn't heard of White Power Australia, they sound scary...Obviously they didn't study history!
Good luck with your train works. Have a lovely weekend Andrew.

    1. Sami, I'm afraid I just called them that, but that is what they are about.

  2. I saw the reports of that meeting. And also that one of our (lesser) politicians had attended - to support the Vietnamese in your community. Sigh. And in the privacy of home said a few pity phrases.

    1. EC, yes, I know who you mean but I didn't hear about the Vietnamese connection.

  3. I think Sydney also are having problems with their public transport system, in that it isn't coping with the population numbers. White Power is a scary concept, especially as a high percentage of those involved are working on a low intelligence level. The words impeachment, motherf.... and #45 work well together ☺

  4. My grandmother taught me, "Anyone who uses profanity is ignorant! There are so many other, good clean words, to strike a man down!"
Grandma was a very smart lady!!!

    1. Maribeth, you and your Grandma are quite right. But we tire of hearing mealy mouthed nothing words about Trumpet. It is an apt description, in my opinion.

  5. White Power sounds like the KKK. Nasty. No place for it in the 21st C.

  6. That White Power Party is still around?? They made noises quite some time ago about keeping Australia white, and were shouted down. I hate the very idea. There's nothing at all wrong with us being multi-cultural, as long as the terrorists are kept out and I don't care what colour THEY are, they can stay in their own country.

    1. River, ever so well put. But we have a problem with terrorists who were born here. What to do.

  7. She was "talked to" by her own party, about public comments like that even though I'm sure the old party members wished they had the tenacity to say such a thing in public. The new congress threw open its windows and doors to fresh air on the 3rd, when they took over. Young people! Out with many old white men, thank goodness. They all need to go. Its time for the young and diverse with unclouded minds and as yet, unclogged arteries so they can think better to take over.

    1. Strayer, she only had to do it once for her to be respected as someone who will call things out, even if she has now been reigned in. Unclouded minds of the younger sounds good to me.
