Friday Funnies

Maybe not funny, just a bit amusing.

This crazy piece of art is the Stravinsky Fountain and can be found at Stravinsky Place next to the Pompidou Centre in Paris. It was unveiled in 1983 and is made up by the black metal parts designed by Jean Tinguely and the coloured works are by artist  Niki de Saint Phalle.

I could watch it for hours. Some Youtube videos of the fountain have music added in the background, but I like to hear the splash of water, the action of the machinery and the French voices in the background. Oh, is that water spurting from the female form's ...... Heck, it is.

  4. I met Stravinsky back in the mid 60's. We spent about 10 mins chatting. If you're interested, type his name into the little white strip on my page.

    1. I shall do that Cro. I imagined him to be an 18th century composer and violin maker. But of course people now have Stravinsky violins, so it can't be that long ago.

    2. I don't think he made violins!

  5. It's weird and I don't like it. I can appreciate the work that went into designing and constructing, but I don't like the end result.

    1. River, as a work of art in the prime cultural area of France, it is wrong. But just as a bit of fun, I like it.

  8. I can see that children would immediately be attracted! That's a very good thing. The start of the appreciation of Art! The world is full of "classic" pieces, I think we need things that are just plain fun!
