Payola and blog comments

When we bought our new dishwasher a month or so ago, the sales person mentioned that it came with an offer of $100's worth of Finish (that's a brand, not the people of the said country) dishwashing powder. Fortunately I remembered this as there was no mention on any documentation. It took a bit of time but I found some relevant links online. I filled in rather a lot of information and a couple of weeks later a large box arrived containing 128 dishwasher tablets, a large bottle of rinse aid, two dishwasher scale cleaners, not a great problem for us with our soft water, and a dishwasher deodoriser.

We are rather pleased. Of course always looking out for cheap Finish dishwasher tablets, the sums don't really add up for us, but still, it is good. Thanks to whoever paid, Bosch or Finish.

I am not making any attempt at connecting the above with the below.

The Blogger comment problem has been solved but it won't happen automatically. The default setting is now that you don't receive comments by email, to comply with European Union legislation, so far as I know.

Here is what you need to do if you want to receive an email with the comment when someone comments on your blog. Sorry, if you quickly understand, but I am writing this to make it as simple as possible.

Open you blog dashboard, that is where the compose button sits and all those buttons are on the left, along with the list of your posts, published and drafts. Go down to Settings and click, then Email. If you were receiving emails of blog comments, your email address will be there in the box next to 'Comment notification email'. Delete your email address within the the box and at the top right, click 'Save Settings'. It has been suggested that you should close down and restart your computer. Do so if you wish.

Then, go back to where you were at, Settings/Email and add your email address to the box 'Comment Notification Email' and again click Save Settings. You will receive an email and within the email there are two options. Select 'Subscribe'. Voila, you will now receive an email when someone comments on your blog. It may take a little time to start working though.

If you don't receive comments normally and want to,  just go to same place and add your email address.

  1. Thanks Andrew. I will try this a little later when my brain cells are firing more accurately.

  3. When I was setting up our new dishwasher I was really confused by the pages of instructions on water testing and adding salt to a special filler, when I'd never needed to do anything of the sort for any other dishwasher I've ever used. Turns out Melbourne is lucky, and our soft water means we don't need to bother.

    1. Marcus, I too remember all that stuff in instruction manuals from the past. Melbourne might not get too much right, but our water is good and clean.

  5. I understood those instructions and if I can, anybody can, so at least I know now what to do if I ever want email notification.
No dishwasher tablets or rinse aids here, I am the dishwasher and just use a squirt of lemon Palmolive liquid and very hot water.

    1. River, thanks. At times people write instructions that are not clear. I should do another survey. Do you wash up in your sink with water in it or under running water.

    2. In the sink with water in it, so warming for the hands in cold weather. Under running water seems a shameful waste in this dry country of ours. Surely no one does that?

  6. So simple if you have a fully functioning noddle.
Now as for those tablets(Finish) my tight arse son buys them on line at a fraction of the cost of those in the shops 250 at a time. He is asleep right now and we still have a full days dishes awaiting his attention, he being the scullery serf and I the Chef. .

    1. Vest, well there is a tip. I must look for them online when our substantial supply runs out. We've gotten them down to 35 cents per tablet.

    1. Like River...I am the dishwasher here, too. I've tried to convince Remy and Shama they should try their paws at it, but they shook their heads, miaowing they didn't want to get their paws wet.

    2. Lee, way to undignified for cats to do the washing up. That is their serf's job.

  9. I like Finish and use it up here in Meredith, New Hampshire. Just had a promo at our Warehouse Club, where if you bought 2 boxes of the Finish Products, you got 25 cents off a gallon while filling your tank. I filled my car, and two gasoline cans (grass mowing) and got $5.50 back! Yay! I love a good sale, and/or rebate!

  11. You are an angel ! I followed your suggestions and now I am curious if it works ! Finish I know already since ages ! At least for 20 years or more I use it since years in tablets, before it was powder. Nice for the company that they have now the Australian market too ! I am back from the coast, it's cold here and it's summer !

    1. Gattina, I hope it does work. It took some time for mine to work, but it is fine now. We have had Finish here ever since we had dishwashers, in our case 1980. Sorry to hear it is cold.
