Work mate banter #1

Yes, there will be a #2.

I was amused by some foreign born workmates' conversation, which I had little to contribute to as I don't think I've ever watched The Voice, a tv singing competition. They all said their children make them watch it but also conceded it was a good way to destress after work. They all seemed terribly knowledgeable. Was that the show where a female won against Anthony Callea and the winner's name put into Google took everyone to a gay pornstar's website? I've remembered her name now. Casey Donovan. She is a rather good singer.

One bloke said he commented negatively on an over the top flamboyant reaction by one contestant. Dad, don't be so anti gay. He held up his hands in horror and perplexment to his daughter. How is that anti gay? It is nothing to do with him being gay.

Another said, I love the Scottish bloke. He confesses to mad sex, taking drugs, drinking and smoking excessively and yet he sings really just over the top well. He should have won.

Another commented on Boy George. I am not sure if BG is mentor or a judge, or both. This bloke said he just loves his bitchy humour. About a woman in a similar role, maybe her name was Kelly, he said to her, travel around the world and say the name Kelly, and people will say Kelly who? Travel around the world and say Boy, and people will say Boy George. The workmate went on to praise the wonderful outfits and hats Boy George wears, suggesting he had his own personal tailor.

There was much jocularity and them probably knowing there was a gay in their midst, nothing nasty. Now't as queer as straight guys.

  1. While I know of the program it isn't one I have seen. Or am likely too.
Now't as queer as folks is one of the truer sayings about.

  2. Anthony Callea and Casey Donovan were on "Australian Idol".

"The Voice" I also do watch. I record it and then watch, fast-forwarding through the ads, etc. I enjoy watching entertaining shows like that...with new talent trying their best... pleasant relief from all the news about murders, break and enters etc. I'm cheering for Trent Bell, a young man from Townsville...great voice!

Boy George is judge-mentor. As is Kelly Rowland (ex-Destiny Child...a girl group that also included Beyonce in their day), Delta Goodrem and Joe Jonas from the US, too...previously of the Jonas Brothers.

"Britain's Got Talent" has been very good this season, too.

Have a good week, Andrew. :)

    1. Lee, you are so much better at popular culture than I am. Iremember 'Idol' now. I only saw bits and pieces. Judge-mentor, thanks. That must be the Kelly who Boy George was referring to.

  3. Meh, too many twats wanting their 15 mins of fame providing unlimited hours of crap to be (cheaply) mined by tv execs.

    1. Lady J, is it not so funny that we do watch perhaps a little of cooking shows but never put into practice of what we see? I love the line from Steel Magnolias.

  8. I've seen the Voice, but not this year, but I do admit that I like seeing the performances. I'm also a Boy George fan, and love his personality. He just seems like a fun guy to hang around with if I had the chance. I wa thrilled to know that he's overcome his drug addiction that he suffered from for years. Many may not know that he's a pretty good businessman, and did well on Celebrity Apprentice a while back. Hugs...RO

    1. RO, well I did not know about his success on Celebrity Apprentice. Oh yes, Boy George would be great fun to hang with, until he got nasty. There is other bad things about Boy George, but I did not know of his drug addiction.
