Ahoy me hearty

It seems by the number of Youtube videos, ship anchors go bad quite often. It seems there is a drum braking mechanism that is prone to failure. I wonder if retired Royal Naval shipman known as Vest experienced anchor failure? Ship anchors have never been a fascination for me, but it is interesting to learn about what happens that ship passengers never see. After three minutes of extensive research on Youtube, this is the best I could find. I think the quite expensive chain has gone to Davy Jones' Locker.

  1. Not something you think of is it? And to the best of my knowledge there isn't a 'roadside' assistance service either.

    1. Lady J, the odds are in your favour. Who knows what ship from what country it was when it happened.

    1. Cro, I hope the ship had plenty of fuel on board to hold its position.

  5. Wow. That's a disaster alright. Hopefully the ship has another anchor, or they may be doomed to forever drifting.

    1. River, it can hold its position with its motors, but it's a very expensive way to anchor.

    2. Don't most ships have an anchor either side of the bow?

    3. River, I do have a memory of seeing an anchor on either side of the bow. I really don't know about today's ships.
