Paul McDermott

Paul McDermott was once a member of the musical comedy group, The Doug Anthony Allstars. The name is very local. Doug Anthony was a politician and the longtime leader of the Australian Country Party The National Party.

Paul now hosts a quiz show on our ABC TV. I quite like the the quiz show, but what on earth has happened to Paul? Paul is very talented. There is no doubt about that.

I was once in a tram in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, returning home after getting my hair cut. Paul got on the tram and I thought to myself, gee, you are hotter looking in real life than on tv. It was partly his understated yet perfect dress, and he moved with grace. Maybe that is what really attracts me to some people, that they move gracefully. And that is not about being a fat or thin person. Many large people move with grace. Many thin people don't. There are no rules.

Anyway, clearly I like Paul. Whether he himself or the ABC decided on how he dressed for this quiz show is a moot point. I don't mind that he now has grey hair. I don't mind that he is older, but the absurd beard and how he dresses for the quiz show really turns me off him.

C'mon Paul. You were once a sexy guy. I can see remains of that now that you are bit older. Why hide it with your absurd beard and silly clothing?

  1. Loved him in Good News Week - and wouldn't have recognised him in his current incarnation.

  2. I have been a Paul fan since, well, since I can remember. Plus I have been a fan of the Doug Anthony Allstars since I can remember. He is definitely hiding the hot these days. Maybe he likes it that way. :)

We saw the Allstars in their current format, minus Richard and plus Flacco in Canberra in 2016, Tim threw out some crumpled piece of papers out into the audience as they arrived on stage. We were in the front row so we managed to snag one, it was a piece of Tim art which now sits on my collectibles cabinet in a frame.

    1. Snoskred, I was never that fond of Richard, but Paul and Tim were great. Flacco is ok. Love that have some original Tim art.

  3. I've only watched a short segment of that new show of his, and that was enough for me, the remote control came into control. What I saw of the show didn't grab me at all.

I'm neither one way or the other about McDermott, not ever being a regular visitor to any of the shows he appeared on over the years.

Sometimes I've enjoyed his humour, other times not; and I certainly didn't enjoy what I watched of this new show. It seemed pretty clumsy to me...but that's just me. Obviously, many others think otherwise and that is their right, too. :)

    1. Lee, I may not have tuned into it had it not been for 'he who controls the remote control' watching it. I've never seen the whole programme and I think an hour is too long, but I do quite like it.

  6. I remember Paul from Good News Week, that was hilarious. Perhaps with a show named Think Tank, he is supposed to look more Professorial? Hence the beard and silly clothing. I have a 'live' version of one of his songs on my mp3 player but can't remember which one. I'll know it when I hear it again.

    1. River, I actually had forgotten about Good News Week. I think it had an abrupt cancellation, which was odd as it rated well. When the song pops up on random play in 2020, please let me know what it is.

    2. Song is Throw your Arms Around Me. Good News Weeks transferred to a commercial station where it did not do well by being broken up with ads, so it died.

  10. I agree, the beard is ridicularse! Only ugly men should have beards and he is by no means ugly!

    1. Grace, I would not go that far about beards. I have become quite used to men with beards, since nearly every second bloke has one here. But they can make a plain looking person more interesting.
