Why doesn't the Australian Bureau of Meteorology have an app? BOM didn't but it has now and it is brilliant, surpassing all other weather apps I have come across. If you are Australian or have an unhealthy interest in Australian weather, download it now to your smartphone. You won't be sorry.
I have no need for an app, I look out the window or open the front door to see what's what outside. I do have an annoyance with the weather thingy on my home page when I open the laptop. It is set on Melbourne and I don't know how to change it. Way back when I had Windows7 I could change it to Adelaide, but it always defaulted back to Melbourne even after clicking 'set as default'. So now I don't even look at it.
ReplyDeleteRiver, I remember having a similar problem and it was some other location setting that made the weather one keep defaulting to the wrong city. I did not worry about it too much, but I did eventually work it out.
DeleteI use Android phones, and you can open up the site you want (I have BOM Sydney forecast as my preferred) and then you "add to your homescreen" and it's like having an app.
ReplyDeleteJames, I just had a shortcut on my Android home screen to the rain radar and from there I could see anything else, forecasts and observations, but the app is so much better.
DeleteHere's the Melb equivalalent http://m.bom.gov.au/vic/melbourne/
ReplyDeleteI always look first thing in the morning to decide on clothing for the day. My beloved always looks to see whether his white skin will survive 4+ hours of exposure on the golf course.
ReplyDeleteHels, one advantage of living here, and how it feels on the balcony is not always a good indicator, is seeing how people are dressed down on the streets. I hope Joe slips, slops and slaps, or whatever the slogan is.
DeleteHubster has one on his phone, NFI what one, but it's ok, he flips betwixt Hughesdale and Dunolly weather forecasts with a thumb flick.
ReplyDeleteNow, if BOM created a widget to plaster onto websites and blogs I would be too, too grateful!
Jayne, and you can do that with the BOM app too. A Bom widget would be a good idea. Are you sure there isn't one?
DeleteI've looked a different weather related items or apps. Like river said one can look out the window. But when one possible have to plan and the weather is part of it. It nice to know what going on...I've seen different weather so called apps sure have different reports...coffee is on
ReplyDeleteDora, that must be different interpretation of weather data. It is best to use the government website, if you can.
DeleteI use the one that comes with Windows 10. It's OK.
ReplyDeleteCro, which what I thought about all the weather apps that I had over the years, that mostly came already installed, but this BOM one is really good and very simple.
DeleteI had "the weather channel" already installed in my Samsung and it's better then the local TV weatherforecast ! Since a week they announce snow and get the people in panic but nothing happens, except 3 snowflakes, while my Samsung thing was right !
ReplyDeleteGattina, our weather bureau is very fond of saying, chance of a shower, and it never happens.
DeleteI have to admit that I'm one of those people who are fascinated by the weather where I live, as well as other places and no one understands it. I have a friend from Australia who lives in Rhode Island who asks me for weather info.(lol) So yes, I will be downloading this app Andrew and I thank you! Hugs...
ReplyDeleteRO, that's really funny about you checking the Australian weather for an Australian friend in Rhode Island.
DeleteI usually listen to the weather on the tv news and as you say above there's always a chance of a shower or even storms, and nothing happens!! Maybe I should install the app and be better informed. Thanks Andrew.
ReplyDeleteActually Sami, the storm warnings are very annoying. I love a good storm and get disappointed when nothinig happens.
DeleteBOM is terrific...but I just look it up via my PC (as well as watch the TV weather reports).
ReplyDeleteI find the weather predictions to be pretty spot-on.
Lee, I agree with weather forecasting. They can be incredibly accurate at times and wrong far less than in the past.
DeleteAs farmers we are big watchers of the weather. A morning is not complete without carefully studying the forecast.
ReplyDeleteCM, a bit more to know now than days of old when you tapped the barometer.
DeleteMust ask P which one he uses on his phone, I don't have any on mine, but that could change with the possibility of ☔ but the likelihood of more 🌞 along with slight ☁ conditions. Sadly absolutely no chance of ❄⛄.. Truck!!
ReplyDeleteVery humorous Grace. Who let you loose with emoticons? Clever though.
DeleteThanks for that BOM will have to try it out now I'm back home (been away for the weekend to beach).
ReplyDeleteAlways interested in the weather for some reason.
Margaret, to the beach! Well, that is a distance for you. Believe me, the app is good.
