Adani

It is very strange that Adani, an Indian company, has been given the right to mine coal in Australia. Even stranger is that the government will lend the company $1 billion to build a rail line to a port. The worst thing is the ecological damage that will be done, in spite of the company's words.

Australia has a lot to be grateful about our vast coal resources that have kept us in good stead and the Adani mine will give jobs to Australian workers.

But burning coal for energy is dead meat. I am often wrong with what I predict or say will happen, but not with this one. Generating energy by burning coal is a dead duck walking. End of metaphors.

This coming week on Monday night Our ABC Four Corners programme focuses on Adani. It should be interesting.

  2. P.s. happy weekend Andrew, you should think about spoiling R and take him out for dinner so he doesn't have to think what to make

    1. Grace, thankfully you did not say I should offer to cook. I often suggest we eat out, and R weighs up the effort of going out to cooking at home and home usually wins. Our dyke friend who now lives in Tasmania is in town and she has organised dinner Sunday night. I will be a late arrival straight from work.

Taking this off topic a bit BUT regarding gas extraction - have you noticed the Federal Government calls not fracking "traditional methods of extraction" and they call fracking "non traditional methods of extraction"

Lipstick on a pig is what I think about that.

  6. Have they definitely said they will lend the money? I really, really hope not. Adani is under investigation for tax evasion and corruption in India. And have breached environmental standards there too.
Sadly I agree with Marie about the lipstick on the pig. And have long described our PM as the same pig as the last one - in a nicer suit.

    1. EC, I wrote that part a while ago. I think the Queensland Premier announced the loan at a press conference.

Will they interview Toxic Tony (coal is the future, coal is good for you) or Lumpy Morrison who bought a piece of it into parliament (presumably because he had run out of paperweights)? A waste of time unless they admit the government doesn't have an energy policy. - Ian
