Wrong Way

While we often see cars coming the wrong way down this one way part of Toorak Road, this morning was exceptional.

Like sheep over a cliff, two cars followed the leader.

Now bear in mind that no driver in this situation can see a red or green traffic light. Yet sit they do until either someone tells them or they take action against the lights, or just make a U turn, which is what the two cars behind the leader did. Still the driver sits as the traffic lights cycle through. It was early morning and there was little traffic going the other way. Now here comes a Mini after the other two cars turned back.

Finally the car turned left into St Kilda Road and the Mini made a U turn. Often these are cars coming out of side streets, but in these instances they weren't. They just drove down the wrong side of the road. While I think they are stupid, when so many people are stupid, maybe there is signage or road guidance problem.

  1. Ooops.
Lucky the roads were so deserted. Or perhaps they wouldn't have made the error if there had been more traffic around.

    1. EC, I think you are correct about the lack of traffic being a reason.

    1. Fen, I am sure they know. They have a camera right above the intersection and they are very aware of problems at the intersection, by what they said in my last email to them.

  3. I notice the angle of the park cars. I would wonder in short while was I going the wrong way.

    2. Yup Dora hit it on the head, they obviously didn't notice the car parks. How on earth do you find yourself driving down the wrong side of the road? Says me who once went around a roundabout into the oncoming traffic☺☺

  6. I don't know the area at all, and just by looking at the pictures I can't see which is the wrong or right way.

    1. River, perhaps I should have included a Google Earth image. Next time. A triangle separates the two sides of the road.

  7. Must be confusing for so many cars to make the mistake. But the follow the leader mistakes are kind of funny.

    1. Strayer, clearly there is an issue. The whole intersection will change next year when tram tracks are laid in the road.
