There is no doubt our Victorian State Government under Labor leader Brumby panicked about the drought in the noughties. A desalination plant was built in haste and the workers to build it named their price, via their union. Isn't that what conservative politics is about? Supply and demand?

  1. Exactly the same happened here in SA and we too, now have a useless, or at least unused, desal plant sitting down at the Port Stanvac coast.

    1. River, I am sure at some point in the future it will be required.

    2. The money would have been better spent on dams and connecting pipelines.

  2. I don't know if California with its drawn out drought is going ahead with desalinization plants or not. Its been talked about. They are always very very expensive. We're in the middle of one of the wettest snowiest winters on record here in Oregon, so thoughts of drought, which plagued us two years ago, are ancient history.

    1. Strayer, I would have assumed California already had one. It does suffer from drought at times.
