My bags are packed and I'm ready to go

Instead of the roar of jetplane engine, it will be the roar of diesel Mercedes campervan.

My bags are not really packed but I am organised. The older you become, the more you need to take on holidays.

We hired a campervan with a friend in New Zealand in the early 1980s. The New Zealand Tourist Bureau in Melbourne was very helpful. I don't remember that there was any sort of concern about driving a large vehicle in a foreign country. Now we are proceeding with our campervan holiday in local climes with much trepidation. Where did our confidence go?

While I have little confidence now and have lost the carefree attitude of my youth, I am sure it will all be ok on the night. That is my confidence.

  1. I hope it all goes well! Will we be hearing from you while you are out and about, or are you going dark? :)

I started packing this week, and we're not leaving till the end of the month. :)

    1. Lordy, you are worse than I am. Yes, going dark. I will write once I return, but I mostly I will be able to interact by comment, I think.

  2. Joe, the children and I loved travelling around in camper vans and sleeping in caravan parks. But would I do the driving in a country that drives on the right hand side of the road? Probably not.

    1. Thank you EC. This trip is a bit unusual as we will be at times making our own meals and so have to pack food as well.

  5. That's exactly how I feel about flying Andrew, when I was younger I was the most confident flyer, now I have to be almost comatose before boarding those unnatural flying machines 😊😊 it's exciting, I bet you'll have the best time!

  6. You will be fine! Have fun! If you make mistakes, claim old age as excuse.

  8. I remember traveling between dad's house in Port Pirie and Mum's house in Murray Bridge with not much more than a toothbrush and a comb. Now I pack a week's worth of stuff for a two day stay less than an hour from home.

    1. River, a wise friend said to us, you pretty well need as much for two nights away as for weeks and he was not wrong.

    1. Fen, me bogging the van today was a little too scintillating for my liking.
