Conflagration in Pudding Lane

I meant to blog about this in a timely manner, but I forgot.

What would you do with this marvellous model of old London built by students and young people of London?

You would set fire to it to of course, to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London. Marie at After 60 - the next 10 tells you a bit more. Here is the link.

  1. Oh wow.
I thought about all the work which went up in flames. And then I realised that was exactly the point. In the original even lives did indeed go up in flames - and changed forever.

    1. EC, yes it was the point. The fire is interesting to read about. Fortunately? our cities seem quite burn proof now.

  2. I don't know if our town of Bonners Ferry every had a fire or not. But I now wonder if the fire danger decrease when they start to use brick for building instead of lumber.

    1. Dora, your town has such a lovely name. Yes, the fire risk did indeed drop when brick buildings were built.

    1. Vest, an irresistible challenge to see how different it is. Ah, all modern buildings now but there is a memorial.

  4. I can't help hoping they built two models and preserved one of them. Such intricate work, sad to see it burned.

    1. River, while I kind of agree with you, the model was purpose built for destruction. A permanent similar construction of 1666 London to be kept in some kind of museum would be good, and God knows, there are lots of museums in London, big and tiny.

  5. It's a bit like the lines of dominos all lined up in intricate patterns then tapped at the beginning to start the collapse 😀
