Happy Birthday Liz

I was away for Her Maj's birthday and so I did not have an opportunity to tell her that I am surprised that the very young me who promised to love, honour and obey her, some 45 years later I am still obeying her and ok, in spite of being a republican, I do love and honour her. A belated cheers, Liz.

This short clip amused me. It seems GB is competing against the US in some sporting competition. If you don't know, Her Majesty is with her grandson Prince Harry, son? of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana and fifth in line to the Throne.

  1. If I recall correctly, Prince Harry saw that the U.S. was doing the Invictus Games for wounded veterans and thought that it should be a world event. Good on him and Lizzie for being good sports for the ad.

  2. Andrew, This must be the second time we've seen The Queen filmed in an intimate setting with a member of her family in just two short weeks.
The BBC recently showed 'Elizabeth At 90...A Family Tribute' where we saw The Queen along with Prince Charles chatting in their palatial living room watching some unseen home movies that the Queen actually filmed years ago.
I don't think we've ever seen such private family moments like this before.
But I'm okay with the Queen and it'll be all go in June when all the 90th Birthday celebrations kick off.

I just have a problem with all her siblings.
I do wish that Harry would shave off that god awful mess on his chin though.
And where did Harry get his ginger hair from...surely not from Charles or Diana.
That Uncle James was a rascal!

    1. DeeJohn, I am not sure that we saw Elizabeth at 90 here, but I may have missed it.

I agree about Harry's facial hair and I can see he is not going to last well in the head hair department. I suppose we will never know about Harry's father, but so long down the track, does not matter.

  3. Made me smile :) I'm a fan of the royal family, they add a touch of something that many countries would love to have!

    1. Grace, and what might that be? That some are better born than others? Yes, I know what you mean.

    1. Sandra, it was probably a first time viewing for you. I think here by the time I posted it, most had seen it.

  5. Yes the Queen's into social media at 90. I think she's got a soft spot for Harry.

    1. Marie, that she might have a soft spot for Harry is at odds with doubts about his paternity. I don't disagree with you though.

  6. That was a rare moment with the Queen. Humanises her public image somewhat. I liked it.

deejohn asked where did Harry get his ginger hair from. Like many people I have mused about his paternity but in fairness it should be remembered that his uncle, Diana's brother, the Earl of Spencer has ginger hair so that colouring is present in Diana's side of the family.

    1. Victor, all stage managed of course. For all we know, maybe even Diana was a red head.

  7. Victor, so right and if you see a photo of George V with his beard, there is quite a resemblence there. Side on he has his grandfather's nose and that can't be missed.

I love how at odd moments the Queen shows her sense of humour, one photo shows her in a fit of giggles at the Duke in uniform with the Bearskin helmet.

    1. Jah Teh, I don't think I have seen that photo. Link? I think the speculation about his father makes him more interesting.

    1. Margaret, although I am sure it was stage managed, she is a very natural actor.
