A couple of things have caught my eye.
Covent Garden Market is going to be filled with 100,000 balloons.
This bemuses me every time I hear about it and it happens with regularity. I assume it applies to Britain and not just England but no matter. The British government owned rail regulator has fined the British government owned Network Rail for poor performance. That is effectively the taxpayer fining itself. What is the point? It is all government money.
A shocking thing happened recently in Scotland, while we were travelling in North America. A car ran off a road with a couple inside. He was killed. She is still alive but badly injured. Later that morning someone noticed the car off the road and called police to inform them. It seems the call was not followed up and the woman lay in the car still alive for three days before another person called the police and this time the call was followed up. The woman later died in hospital but was conscious when found. What an absolutely awful way to die and what shocking incompetence or system failure by someone. I am unable to find any further news later than the day of her funeral.
And for something lighter. Duration 21 seconds
The video is awesome. But the accident in Scotland was really awful.Poor woman
ReplyDeleteYes, pretty sad case, Gosia.
Delete100,000 balloons in Covent Garden? That one has past me by. I'll have to pop in and see what's going on. I think tourists have no idea that the guards are fighting soldiers and not just ceremonial guards. In these days of high alert he is lucky the bayonet wasn't fitted. That incident in Scotland is appalling. Apparently it was someone in the call office that lacked experience and didn't pass the message on to the appropriate section with the worst possible outcome.
ReplyDeleteMarie, I did know that about the guards, but regardless who in their right mind would mess with them? Rather a number apparently. That is some more information about the accident than I knew. No doubt someone is quite horrified at their error.
DeleteThank you for the video. I needed it after reading about that poor woman. What a dreadful thing.
ReplyDelete10,000 balloons would be special. I hope to remember and track down photos.
EC, I hope Marie takes some photos of the balloons.
DeleteSo sad about the woman in the car accident.
ReplyDeleteI would like to be there when they release 10,000 balloons and I got a good laugh out of the video
Merle................
Very sad Merle, but glad you had a laugh from the video.
DeleteHow heartbreaking and needless... I grieve for this woman, and for the couple's friends and family.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the video, I'll be showing it to GS, he'll get a laugh from it.
=)
Jac, it is a truly awful case. I'll bet GS wasn't game to tangle with guards like that when he was young.
DeleteI assume the message about the dying woman in the car got lost, somewhere between the emergency telephone operator, the police station allocation of cases and the policemen with the ultimate responsibility for handing the accident. I HAVE to believe it was a cockup, and not brutality or disdain.
ReplyDeleteHels, I am sure you are correct and as Marie points out with more information, a lapse by an inexperienced person.
DeleteHorrifying about the car accident, if found earlier that woman may have lived.
ReplyDeleteWhy the 100,000 balloons?
She may well have lived River. It is not what we expect from the British finest. No doubt the balloons are something artistic.
DeleteAs you might imagine, the car death case has been a very big story here. There have been calls for the chief of Police to be sacked but really, what good does that do? As Marie said, it was an error in a call centre apparently and in my view, we should forget about finding a scapegoat and figure out what lapse in protocol or training allowed such a tragedy, change the rules or regulations and ensure that it can never happen again.
ReplyDeleteWise words Craig, but with hindsight, people should be properly trained and it just should not have happened. Boil it down to the essence, someone ran off the road, someone reported it and nothing happened.
DeleteThat is indeed an awful way to die, really shameful.
ReplyDeleteIt is Blogoratti, and while in spirit I trust our systems, they do go wrong at times.
DeleteOh my, that is so dreadful, the poor women, not knowing if anyone was coming, how pleased she must have been when someone did arrive. Sad she lost her life because someone didn't do their duty. Imagine if that happened in Australia! Perious the thought!
ReplyDeleteYes Margaret. I don't want to think about the detail too much. It would do you head to think of her perhaps in and out of consciousness for three days. It could happen anywhere unless systems are in place to cover human failure.
DeleteThat's a horrific thing to happen Andrew, I can't even cope with that info in my overly sad heart right now..
ReplyDeleteSorry Grace. It was a bit unthinking of me. I should have left it longer.
DeleteDon't worry Andrew, I really need to try and stop thinking about it but when the two little ones ask for their mum it breaks my heart. Still no official notification as to what actually happened, should be soon.
DeleteGrace, no where in my family has a child lost a mother. I just can't imagine it yet I can feel such horrible pain about it. Coach driver fell asleep I guess. Rostering practices? Time between shifts? Breaks on journeys? Driver error, but why? No one wants to kill anyone. Not the driver's wrong that needs to be looking into but why his awful fault occured.
DeleteHope to see photos of the balloons! That might be dangerous messing with the Queens' guard but I doubt little is sacred to some young men.
ReplyDeleteStrayer, I think young men have always been like that, the difference now is they don't have respect for authority.
DeleteHow awful this incident in Scotland ! The video looks funny, but I always pity these poor guards, some tourists are really not respectful at all !
ReplyDeleteI would not be game to mess with them, Gattina.
