My store Myer

We were in the Myer department store toy department last weekend. Myer is having a stock taking sale and there were all sorts of promotions happening in the toy department. Although we are looking after Little Jo tomorrow, we won't be taking her there as her mother is dead against anything Barbie related and not keen on Disney either.

Gratuitous photo of a terrific busker in Bourke Street Mall. His hands flew up and down the keyboard and seemed to be able to play many different styles of music. As you can tell from his blurred head, he was very animated.

I found great amusement for myself in the toy department with this dinosaur in the first video and goodness knows what it is in the second video, but it certainly could and did frighten young children.

  1. Andrew ~ The second one is a Minion from Despicable Movies ~ aka Happy Song Despicable Me 2. The kids at school tell me I HAVE to see Jurassic World, but I tell them that I saw the original 22 years ago when it was originally rated R. Beat that kids!

    1. Thank you Carol. I will consult with my niece tomorrow. A friend has just seen Jurrasic World at an Imax style screen in Malaysia. He enjoyed it.

  3. I am with Little Jo's mama on the subject of Barbie. Trailer trash barbie made me smile when I heard about it though.

  4. I could do with a dinosaur in the back yard, it would frighten away the fruit bats who eat all my berries .

    1. Merle, if I wasn't going away I would nick the one in Myer for you. You pay the postage.

  5. The busker was having a good time by the sound of it. Amazing with technology today and instruments. Once had an electronic full organ and wore it out :). Played it, obviously a lot.

Barbie, 2 grandchildren have one each. The display in Myer does look good.
Dinosaurs must frighten many children, yet some love them..

    1. WA, he was just brilliant. He had cds for sale but it would not be the same as watching him. I don't know why dinosaurs fascinate children. Odd really. I was never really interested in them.

  6. The second video is a Minion; there's a whole movie about them, called Minions of course, there's three of them, one is called Kevin and I don't recall the others, but I'm planning on seeing the movie soon. Love the dinosaur, that's from the latest Jurassic Park movie.
The Disney/Barbie displays are lovely, you're wise to stay away though, that stuff is hugely expensive and Barbie....

  7. There are 3 movies I want to see with dinosaurs, minions and L.A. disappearing in a ripper earthquake but mother has decided to catch lungrot again so I resigned to being within phone range.
Andrew, my birthday is in July and I would just love a minion, colour R and send him over.

    1. Jah Teh, read our friend Victor's review of San Andreas. How unfortunate that we will be absent from the country for your birthday. Have an extra Bombay Sapphire on the night for me.

  8. There was a Barbie display thing recently in Southland Myer. It played the same song, about 30 seconds worth, over and over and over.
Someone who looks remarkably like me, got sick of it after about 10 minutes and may or may not have found the off switch for the display.
I didn't hear anyone complain that they wanted it back on...

    1. Fen, haha. I once killed a light over our table in Pizza Hut and staff apologised for the light not working. Post Office in Hexham UK, endlessly, Postman Pat theme. Drove us nutty and I guess we were only there three times.

  9. I'm not sure why but I just don't see Little Jo being 'into' Barbie, I would imagine her appreciating more of a challenge! Aimee and P saw Jurrasic World and loooooved it..I stayed home and watched two of my recently acquired French movies :)

    1. Grace, she does like girlie things but not obsessively. It doesn't worry her to not have Barbie. I found out today the dinosaur is promoting the movie. Every person over the age of forty kept calling the movie Jurrasic Park.

  10. Barbie is the worst kind of commercialism - aimed squarely at children and their parents wallets. The busker is adorable - almost like a fitter Ed Sheeran

    1. Craig, or aimed at the Uncles' wallets. We got out of it cheaply today with $20 for a toy gift for a party Little Jo is going to tomorrow. He quite nice, dare I say it, nicer the Sheeren. He was there againg today, more heavily dressed and wearing a beret.
