It is all a terrible misunderstanding

Blog issues.  A great blogmate publishes the same comment twice on my blog. While it has also happened to  others, this person is the only one who persistently comments twice. Should I email and tell the person not to comment twice? Of course not, it is an internet/computer thing. The blog writer has not control over it. Blogspot will sort it out, eventually.

A second blogmate stopped commenting on my blog. This is a person who I thought I had a good connection with. I thought the person was busy with life but still managed to churn out blog posts. That is until I noticed the person commenting on other blog mates' posts but just not mine. I looked and I had disappeared from the person's list. I had been dumped, so I thought. I sent an email to enquire why. I would not do this with everyone, but as I said, I thought we were well connected. Guess what, some computer internet issue again.

A third blogmate made a comment on my blog as to why I no longer post a comment on their blog.  The long and the short of it is, I did make comments but the person receives comments only as emails and there was no arriving email for my comment on the person's blog over a decent period. The person thought I had stopped commenting. Earlier, the person had stopped receiving my posts on however the person receives blog updates.

Sometimes blog mates just fade away. They stop posting, you stop posting. They change to not responding to comments after they always used to and no longer comment elsewhere either. Isn't that just like real life where friends can fade away? There was no deliberate intention. It is just how things happen at times in life.

With the exception of the first case above, it you feel like you like you have wrongly been dumped, send a nice email to the person and ask why. My email in the second case solved the matter, as did the the person's email in the third case solve the matter.

I expect if you ask R, he would say I say I spend far too much too much time in blog world. While I have real life friends, some of who were just blog mates, I really do take my blog world seriously as part of my life.

  1. This gives me the perfect opportunity to mention that, for some reason, your blog no longer shows in the list of blogs I follow - although I am still following you, obviously. So this weekend I'm going to rectify the situation; I'll stop following and then re-join, in hopes your blog will show up again.
    Sorry, you're stuck with me.

    1. Jac, thanks for telling me. I am thinking something may have happened to a blog setting at my end. I am not displeased about being stuck with you.

  2. I used to worry about it... Now i dont.... Real life often gets in the way.....and if you commented on all the blogs you read.......well, i would be typing all day long, thats for sure..... Readers come and go. I read one blog then may forget to catch up with things for a while....
Tiz the way of things.....i hope people dont think im ignoring them

    1. John, I understand how you operate your blog and how you comment and there certainly would not be enough hours in the day to respond. Meant in the kindness way, it is not like you sit down and write two very polished posts each week.

  3. Andrew, I love your blog you are a great blogger friend. They aren't many loyal bloggers as you..

  4. Blogger plays up occasionally, some peoples comment appear twice, I just delete one of them.....I expect people get busy, too busy to put on their blog that they are having a rest from blogging. Some people do have lovely manners and put that on their blog, it makes for not wondering if they are ill, and ok.
Blogger people are real, have feelings and do become friends, friends that sometimes we are fortunate to meet.
    Happy blogging :)

    1. WA, I used to worry when people abruptly stopped writing and sent a couple of emails in the past but learnt that my concern for their welfare was misplaced. Yes, you have met a few blog people, I recall.

  5. The double comment happens to me sometimes when I leave comments, not often but it does happen. I always delete the second comment. And I do receive double and triple posts from the odd person. I did Google the problem but couldn't find any solution.

    1. Craig, as it did in the earlier post. I made the final deletion to keep things tidy. I don't think it happens often with your comments.

    2. Oh the irony that it happened when I commented on this post!

  6. Oh god I hope it's not moi who publishes the same comment twice, I know it's happened before.. So sorry if it is Andrew :)

    1. Grace, if it was, no problems. It wouldn't be anything you have control over. I would rather two comments the same than no comment.

  8. Some of the people I have met in the blogosphere have become very dear to me, despite the fact that we may never meet.
And the double comment malarkey happens to me sometimes. And on my blog as well. Sigh.

    1. EC, I feel the same yet at times I feel silly about it. I think Google is rather neglecting Blogger or such things would be smartly fixed.

  9. For many months now I no longer receive email notification of your comments on my blog. I receive email notification of everyone's comments; just not yours.

I don't know why. One of life's internet mysteries.

    2. same with me Andrew, I don't receive notifications when you comment on my blog. Not a big deal at all as I always check the blog itself.

    1. Fen, when writing a comment, especially if it is a long one, copy it before publishing. I sometimes take my own advice.

  12. I still read everything but seem to have lost the ability to communicate anything sensible due to mother induced 5 cms from the edge complete breakdown. Same with blogging, my brain cells just disintegrate with the effort of putting fingers to keyboard.
Not speaking to you anyway for not asking me to look after the HighRise while you are away. El Chi needs a break, River could have caught a train over, we'd have drunk all your wine, trashed the place with pizza boxes but cleaned it so well, you'd never have known we'd been there. Our cats might have been a problem but then we'd have just locked them in your bedroom, it needs a good springclean.

    1. What a great idea, I could supply the kitty litter and you could have my share of the wine. If you promise I can have pineapple on every pizza I'll even do the dishes.

    2. Jah Teh, why not invite Annie and Pants too. How nice it would be to return to an apartment strewn with gin and wine bottles. The beauty of not having pets and a place like this is we can just slam the door and go.

River, you are so not invited. Take no notice of Jah Teh. She has probably been munching chocolate all day and washing it down with Bombay Sapphire. Although, how are you at polishing silver?

    3. NOT invited?? Should I be offended? Hmmm? Or is it the pineapple on pizza that offends you?
I can polish silver as good as any old housemaid (*~*)

  13. I was in my blog list just last night deleting people for various reasons. one because she doesn't post my comments if I say something she doesn't agree with. Others because they post so sporadically now. Another because the posts always make me feel sad/bad/annoyed.

    1. River, some may thing I am harsh about my blog list, but I really wait until they are keepers before I add them.

  14. Never mind the pineapple, I use your blog list because I'm too lazy to fix my blog list back on my blog. I'm glad you don't drink, you can stop El Chi and me from falling off the HighRise balcony. Just think of the photos you can take from that height.

    1. Jah Teh, how unkind to ask River to be your keeper. I am getting her sorted to clean our silver. She won't have time for your shenanigans.

    2. Don't worry Andrew, I'll lash them on with bungy cords. That way if they fall they'll just bounce right back up and think of the photos!!

    3. Sounds good to me. Though I don't like having my photo taken. Perhaps I need to stay on the balcony... Quite different to staying on the fence.

  15. When I the first sentence of each of your scenarios I was SO convinced you were talking about me - I've been such a BAAAAAD blog buddy for the last few weeks. I even had a blog buddy in town recently wanting to meet up but I couldn't make it fit my schedule. Such are the rewards of early retirement :D I've had all the above happen - often it IS just a computer glitch, but the problem with non-face-to-face communication is no non-verbals and a whole lot of paranoia about when it would/wouldn't be appropriate to contact someone by email, when you've mainly communicated via blog comments! I've done that once and the person thought I'd turned into a stalker!

My problem is a VERY slow internet connection at home, and no time when I'm on the road. Catch-22, huh??!!

As one of my BEST blog comment-leavers, I offer a blanket apology to you if my blog buddy behaviour has made you think I'd lost interest or didn't value our blog-land friendship.

    1. Red, there was a time in the past when you troubled me a little but you were in the process of big things and re-inventing your blog. I could have always emailed you. If you are not travelling with bad internet connection, you are not finding content to blog about. You are high on my list of VIPs and shall remain there whether you comment on my blog or not.

    2. Thank you Andrew - I know I dropped off some lists when I had my blogging hiatus last year. And my shift to Wordpress seems to have given me a 15 hour a week increase in administrative tedium :D You can email me any time - have you really NOT seen any interesting birds lately??

    3. None that I don't know. Cockies have an interest in the apartments being built across the road. If one of the workers is not leaving them seed, I expect they are up to no good. Although this did come from our Friend in Japan today but outside your remit. "I did see a cute little bird though that I'd never seen before. He was brown and spotted with a white stripe down the side of his head and neck. Obviously some kind of wader."

    1. Jackie, I've not experienced spam going wrong of late, but it has in the past. I recently had a flood of spam and fortunately they were all intercepted. This email comment business is puzzling to me as I receive all comments by email within a second of them being published.
