Some personal bits

Lamb is expensive at the moment in Australia, at around $34 per kilo (2.2lb). R got an absolute bargain when a large whole leg of lamb was discounted to $22. We've had roast lamb and cold lamb and salad. It has filled five sandwiches and there is still plenty there.

Our friend the Brighton Antique Dealer's church burnt down and she is quite upset. It may well have been a deliberate act as revenge against a now dead paedophile priest. Gary Furlong took this photo and it was published in The Age.

Easter eggs have been bought. Some came from Haigh's Choclates and some from Big W. Read nothing into that. Mother will  only eat a Cherry Ripe egg and Haigh's did not have much for children. R always buys a couple of spares too, which if are not given to someone...........

I am off work today as I had to attend the doctor. I have an infected ear lobe and its looks like I have a bull's testicle hanging from my ear. Some cheap antibiotics and all will soon be well, and the drop diamonds can go back in.

  1. Feel better soon Andrew... that has to be terribly uncomfortable for you.

I despise paedophiles, but burning a building because of something a person did makes absolutely no sense.

    1. Jac, it is less swollen this morning. People argue that it kindles terrible memories for them when they pass by. Of those he abused, four suicided later in their lives. He really was a horror.

  2. You could totally bling up the bulls testicle with some Swarovski crystals. :) People might mistake it for an earring.

From what I see on the Real Housewives of Melbourne, they wear their earrings super big down your way. ;)

I hope it reduces back down to a regular earlobe soonest! ;)

    1. Snoskred, I think the best thing to do would be to put ear muffs on and hide it. I will have to be a bit more observant of earrings when I am in better areas.

  3. Lol.. Re ear...gee I do hope it improves quickly. Did you just have your ear pierced?
Lamb is a bit expensive at times...we had a leg on Saturday evening, then Sunday I made a Shepherd's Pie...all was yummy.
Saw that church fire on our news...dreadful.
We don't buy much chocolate for Easter, just a small egg for each of the grandchildren. I love cherry ripes and often get a fad on them...

    1. WA, it is that type of infection, but no, it is many years since the ear was pierced and I haven't worn an earring, other than clip ons!, for twenty years. We have cut down the number of eggs we buy a lot. I suspect the figure will be much lower once Mother goes.

  4. Dreadful about that lovely old church Andrew, some people lose the plot in their anger. Easter is the worst time for a chocoholic like moi, determined to have some control this year.. Yeh like that's going to happen :) Hope your testicle ear pulls itself together soon Andrew.

    1. Grace, I don't mind good chocolate, but I have lost my sweet tooth now. I guess you will be out of your normal control zone over Easter.

  5. Not that anything will save the Brighton Antique Dealer's church now, but I hope it wasn't arson. Too many hours were spent in that building!

[Good luck with the bull's testicles!]

    1. Hels, churches do sometimes just burn down, so it may well have been that.

  6. Oh ouch, on the ear lobe. I got infected after piercing long ago. But didn't swell to that size you so graphically offered up. The church fire photo is spectacular. I'm with Heis---good to stay out of churches.

    1. Strayer, I may be exaggerating the size a little. Of course I couldn't leave it alone and made it worse probably.

  7. I hope the bull's testicle is quickly returning to its natural position and owner.
Sad about the church. If it is arson it is even less sensible than shooting the messenger.

    1. EC, if it was arson and for the reason suggested, it was a terrible act to do to people who cared about the church.

  8. Disinfect those drop diamonds before they go back in, please, and wait an extra week once the infection has cleared just to be sure. Then take out any earrings once a week and give them a good clean as well as your lobes, just to be safe forevermore.
Have you noticed that Cherry Ripes are now owned by Cadbury? They were my dad's favourite for years, but owned by MacRobertson then, and they were very nice. Now they have what Cadbury *thinks* is chocolate, but is a poor substitute. I'll never buy Cherry Ripes again.
We're exchanging Lindt and Haighs eggs and bunnies this year.
As far as I'm concerned, the price of lamb is outrageous and has been for too many years. If the lamb sold was even a decent size it might not be so bad, but most of the time what they sell is baby lamb or spring lamb, poor babies too small to even leave their mothers, let alone develop a decent amount of flesh or flavour. I'd much prefer to buy hogget, but that is hard to find these days, so I haven't eaten lamb for about ten-twelve years now.
I'm up this early because Angel has woken me every hour and a half ALL night.

    1. River, it is a long time since I have worn earrings. I am not keen on men over a certain age wearing them, or much jewellery at all. I did notice who owned Cherry Ripes. That one is for Mother, as she can't eat......I don't know, but somehow she can eat a CR Easter egg. I think we export so much good lamb, there is little good stuff left for the local market and makes it expensive here. I do like lamb though.

As I type, it is probably the time you would normally get up and Angel is about to have a nice long nap.

  9. My ear is bothering me too. I shouldn't have had it pierced twice.

    1. Susie, I had forgotten, I once had two piercings in that ear. Don't play with your ear and let nature deal with it.

    1. Gosia, the Haigh eggs are very nice, and quite expensive, so I won't be sending them anywhere.

  12. Shame about the church - I read about it on the web. It was the priest who was sent back to the UK wasn't it? How strange - we bought a leg of lamb as it was on sale last week too! £7,50 for the whole leg but smaller than yours I think. I do love a lamb roast and it makes a great shepherds pie ground up the next day! Sorry to hear about the ear lobe - I've never heard of that before except I think when an ear has been pierced. I always though of you as more a tiara girl than drop earrings.

    1. Craig, it was reported that he fled to the UK to avoid the law and subsequently died. Yes, our leg was huge but £7.50 doesn't sound too bad. Tiara? Drop earrings? I am very versatile.

  13. That lamb leg would not have lasted into the 'sandwich' stage at our home. I would have demolished it all in one sitting (and gnawed the bone too)!

    1. No Ad Rad. It was a monster leg. It is well depleted now, nearly a week later. but there are some rough cut slices left on plate and the bone tightly wrapped up for me to chew upon, perhaps fro breakfast.

  14. I have a client who was victim to a paedophile priest, he was gleeful at the churches that were burning, though assured me he was not setting them on fire!

    1. Fen, The Bolt wrote, as he does, in the Herald Sun and got stuck into Rachel Griffiths for saying similar. I understand where Rachel and you client are coming from.
