The important things in life

Glad Wrap is best. Cling Wrap does not cling as well and I would not buy it. But I can understand why R bought Cling Wrap my mistake. Since when did Glad have its name on Cling Wrap?

Well, clingyness is one thing, but instead of the cutting blade being at the bottom of the box, it is on lift up lid part. I find this nearly impossible to use and leads to quite a bit of wastage on my part as I get the wrap in a tangle.

So, I retrieved the old box from the recycling bin under the sink and put the roll of wrap in that. The old box has one of those slide cutters, which I am now quite adept with, as I am if the cutter is on the base of the box.The lid is just as stupid place for the cutter.

    1. Thanks Gosia. I think everyone in the world has a wrestle at times with the plastic wrap.

  2. You have educated me once more Andrew....I didn't even realise there was a difference between glad wrap and cling wrap.

  3. Funny how the smallest things in life can create the greatest hardship. Opening packets of biscuits can turn the air blue.

    1. Fun60, my bete noire is blister packets, say containing a memory stick. They are outright dangerous to life and limb, well fingers.

    2. I flip the package over and cut through the cardboard with my stanley knife, the blister is impossible, if the packaging is all sturdy cellophane, I still flip it over and cut through the flat side. Much easier.

    3. River, I usually use scissors but a Stanley knife is a better implement.

  4. Do we get odd as we age, the beer fairy hates canned pineapple with pear juice in it, I can not tell the difference, I don't care to much about cling wrap but like certain hand towel the soft ones have no substance and don't fit in my holder and are hard to tear, so we all have our oddities.

    1. Merle, I can honestly say I never knew of pineapple in pear juice. Why would anyone do that? Yes, we only buy Handee paper towel I think.

    2. Most canned fruits "in juice" these days are pear juice, since it is much cheaper and more readily available I've heard. I prefer the old style canned fruit in syrup, thick and sweet. it's sugar syrup of course, but the cost of sugar is prohibitive these days, hence the proliference of fruits in juice.

    3. River, I am with you. Now I know why tinned fruit is not what it used to be.

  5. I have cursed at exactly this issue. More than once I am sorry to say since I often don't do the shopping. Glad wrap is much more better. Much.

    1. EC, a tap on the head with a roll of wrap will ensure the Skinny One remembers your preference.

  6. Glad is the brand name and the product is Cling Wrap, there are other Glad products, bin bags for example. I agree about the cutter placement though, possibly the boxes were wrongly labelled during manufacture and they are actually foil boxes? email the company and find out. I quite like the slide cutter and plan on keeping that box to just refill with whatever cling wrap is on special next time I need some.

    1. River, I am sure Cling Wrap was once its own brand. Glad would not have put Glad Wrap and Cling Wrap on the market at the same time. Don't foil boxes only have serrated cardboard to cut? But yes, it usually on the lid. Yep, I will see how long I can keep the slide cutter box going.

    2. Andrew, "Glad" is the brand. I would have thought "cling wrap" was the generic description and "Glad" have taken to describing their classic "Glad Wrap" as Glad Cling Wrap" for some reason best known to themselves. That wouldn't be a problem except that they have also rethought the packaging in a way which displeases you.

    3. No Marcellous. Cling Wrap, note the caps, was a later and cheaper alternative to Glad Wrap. They were completely different products. I am sure Lever and Kitchen is behind all this confusion, or is it Royal Dutch Shell?

    4. Cling Wrap was so named by other companies copying the plastic film because the Glad name was trademarked, thus we have OSO cling wrap, MULTIX cling wrap and of course the stores have their own generic brand cling wrap. Since there are now so many cling wraps on the market, Glad has probably decided to adopt the name too, thus we now have Glad cling wrap, which isn't as thick and clingy as the original was. Quality suffers over time as we all know.

  7. That is odd with the name on the cling wrap package.
I don't seem to have a bother with wrap as such, don't know why, probably because it can be hard. As my husband is always saying, "if it's easy you can't do it, if it's hard you can"...so I don't know!

    1. WA, while I haven't done it lately, I do recall screwing up the ripped off wrap into a ball, chucking it into the bin and starting again. Lordy, you should see my mother try to use wrap. I'll keep your ability to master hard tasks for future reference.

  9. I have NO patience with household products that don't work. I was quite happy with the nozzle on our usual brand of dishwashing liquid - so of course they changed it to something that squirts out a LOT more (wastage) AND clogs up so we're forever having to pick it out. I'm SO not loyal to a brand - we immediately searched until we found a dishwashing liquid brand with a 'normal' nozzle. So thanks for the tip - I'll be avoiding the dud cling wrap next time it needs replacing!

    1. Red, that must have been annoying. Our dishwasher liquid dispenser has been changed a couple of times over the last six months. I have not queried why.
