The Twelfth Doctor

Dr Who had been around for my whole life. As a very young child, I used to be scared of the show and the theme music seemed evil. Now, the old shows are quite laughable. I have watched it off and on over the years but I seriously tuned in when Paul McGann made his debut, who was ok. Christopher Eccleston was good. Then I loved the series with David Tennant as the Doctor. I drifted off when Matt Smith took on the role. He did not work for me, not that he wasn't attractive enough. I think I perhaps feel that Tennant was the ultimate and could not be surpassed. Anyway, I thought the latter episodes of the last Matt Smith series became quite silly, as was the special multiple doctors episode.

What will we make of the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi? He is the same age as I am, and after learning that, I don't feel so bad about my looks. I will watch an episode or two out of duty and see if he grabs me, but I feel he is just too old to create the sexual frisson created by the last four Doctors. Capaldi gives me a feeling of an earlier incarnation of Dr Who.

McGann.

Ecceleston.

Tennant.

Smith.

Capaldi.

  2. I love films with doctors because in the past I would like to study medicine. Capaldi looks intereseting as a doctor- experienced as a doctor.

    1. Gosia, I don't think he is a doctor of medicine, but he is a doctor of something. Capaldi is interesting, no doubt.

  3. Some of the doctors I have loved. Others have left me cold.
    Loved David Tennant.
I don't recall seeing any of McGann. I wonder why not?

    1. EC, mid nineties when McGann was on air. Maybe you were otherwise occupied. I had actually forgotten he was a doctor.

  4. I never got into the Dr Who frenzy and have rarely watched the show. Even had I got into it I think I would have lost, or at least greatly lessened, interest after all these years.

Whenever I see Capaldi my mind immediately think of him in his television role as the foul mouthed feared adviser to the British Prime Minister.

    1. Not have I gotten into the frenzy Victor, but our ABC is beating it up big time. The Tennant series was really good with some interesting other human characters.

    2. I watched the first episode of this new series but lost interest fairly quickly and didn't see it through to the end.

  5. I haven't watched Dr. Who, but I want to someday watch the David Tennant years, because I liked him when I saw clips of "Blackpool".

I Googled Capaldi so I could know your age. I too feel reassured when finding celebrities who are my age or older.

    1. Me too. Your photo of David Tennant looks so young and baby faced :) I saw him in A Politician's Husband just recently and he was brilliant.

    2. Dina, normally I feel worse after seeing actors my own age and console myself with having a face that shows I have lived.

Do you mean when he opened the annual Blackpool Lights?

    3. Hels, I like him as an actor a lot. He was interviewed once in his home town in Scotland? with his parents. Most interesting.

  6. Most Doctors regenerate to look younger, Capaldi is a step in the other direction. when does the new series begin on TV? I'll watch a few episodes to see if it is any better than the last series. Matt Smith's Doctor was an idiot.

    1. Maybe tomorrow night, River. The remote control holder person will bother himself with such details.

  7. They don't tend to cast classically good-looking men in that role.

    1. Ad Rad, no, they don't, but they can still be quite sexy without great looks. It is something I have learnt in my maturity, that looks are only part of the equation.
