Sister and Bone Doctor are getting married and Little Jo will be flower girl. Apparently they are flying to Canberra mid week to do so. How interesting to find out via Face Book.
R is very cross with Mother because she sent two letters and failed to include him. Today he refused to go to a family gathering at the Leighoak Club for ABI Brother's birthday. Mother said she will call tonight. I told her not to bother as R will not take her call. I suggested she write to him. She will do that and be very humble. R is a sensitive soul. R is often very cross with Sister and he is extra cross now. He is on the cusp of cancelling us doing christmas. The trouble with R is that he cares too much. But I am quite cross too about finding out about Sister's marriage via FB, but I see a bigger picture, keeping the family connected.
Argh... Keeping peace in families can be so much work!
ReplyDeleteMitchell, it never used to be a problem until Little Jo arrived and Step Father died and we all became a bit closer.
DeleteCongrats to your sister and her family. But yeah annoying to learn via Facebook.
ReplyDeleteThat would probably hurt my feelings.
Dina, it will be interesting to see if we are told at all. It may be a very short marriage if the High Court strikes down the right.
DeleteGah! Facebook, it's a curse. I never can get over the most personal things people post there. Sorry R had his feelings hurt, it's a bit off, he does so much for your Mum, hopefully they will get things sorted..with a little help from yourself Andrew. Personally I think marriage is very outdated these days, it seems so unnecessary!
ReplyDeleteGrace, yes great care must taken with Face Book, especially after a glass of vin. I agree with you about marriage. Why the effort and expense?
DeleteFamilies are frequently difficult beasts. I hope the peace is restored (and am glad that I don't play FB).
ReplyDeleteAgreed... I have no idea why families all over the place act like dropkicks to the very people they are supposed to be close to.
DeleteBut small events like this one can lead to permanent ruptures in family life, even when the siblings cannot remember what the original issue was :(
My parents, aged 91 and 90, have not been allowed to visit my youngest brother since his wedding day decades ago. It destroyed them.
Thanks EC. I rarely use FB, mostly just look at occasionally.
DeleteHels, that is truly awful about your brother and your parents. Surely at their age of life, some magnanimity should be shown.
Oh dear! I had friends go up this weekend and get married, they were on the front of lots of the papers.
ReplyDeleteThat's great Fen.
DeleteI would have been gutted to find out that way. I hope a letter from your Mother will mend the rift.
ReplyDeleteWell Fun60, we shall see how it all goes. R will cool down in time.
DeleteIf the High Court says "No" on Tues will the trip to Canberra be off?
ReplyDelete(Not that that would resolve the issues.)
Good question Marcellous. I thought the decision was due later in the week. It seems quite silly then to make such arrangements.
DeleteCorrection:
Delete(I was relying on press reports)
"The Court hopes to be in a position to announce a decision on 12 December."
ie, Thurs.

My tip is that the court will strike the law down. For some reason Justice Gageler did not sit, so things are tipped to the conservative end. If a tied decision the chief justice's side prevails and in that case I would expect him to be in the "No" side because he has always taken the conservative position when that favours the Cwth.
Marcellous, yes, I did check. I nearly gave Sister heart failure when I told her it might be Tuesday. She said much as you have, that one progressive judge was not sitting. Wonder why it is not a full bench?
DeleteGageler was until recently Cwth Solicitor General so may have given advice to previous Gvt on this very issue (noting that Labor has been no better than Liberal on it).

Seems all the Cwth has to do to hobble him is for him to have given advice and Cwth not to disclose the content of the advice.
Not really a satisfactory position at all for all sorts of reasons.
Guessed right:

My sister was referring to Justice Kiefel, a woman. No we know how the gov gets a decision it wants. Thanks for all the links.
DeleteBad error I expect a visit and a personal announcement but will be happy with a phone call if a visit is not possible on such important family news, not that I always get it.
ReplyDeleteMerle............
We got the call tonight Merle, with apologies. If she had not announced in FB, someone else would have, which would have been worse.
DeleteYou are immediate family and should have been told before Facebook.
ReplyDeleteon the other hand....WEDDING!! Yay!! Send me a slice of wedding cake.
See above River. There will be a public celebration in the new year. They fly to Canberra and back on the same day.
DeleteI know exactly how R feels - I found out my sister in law had breast cancer via Facebook too! It astounds me that people feel it's ok to spread news, either good or bad, via social media. But like you and wanting to keep the peace, I said nothing about that, just send my good wishes instead.
ReplyDeleteWombat, I think FB becomes real life for some people, especially younger ones. Though, I don't think it is right.
DeleteBtw, I am in the process of preparing a post on Trugo. You don't remember the bowling green like trugo place in Prahran?
