Palais

It was surprisingly difficult to work out when a certain modern feature was added to St Kilda's Palais Theatre and I still haven't but note in the recent photo, there are modern windows above the front canopy and they aren't there in the older photo. While the addition is somewhat sympathetic, they still grate on me. I hope they can be removed when the Palais is eventually restored.

  1. Much better than what you have called demolition by neglect, but it's good to hear it will be restored.

  2. FC, the roof has been replaced, so that is a start.

  3. The old windows are so much prettier, I also hope they get restored. Is the interior still the same or is that in need of restoration too?

  4. River, it is a long time since I have been inside, but I think it is quite original inside, hence it needs a lot of money spent on the internal restoration and upgrading of behind the scenes things, including lighting, ventilation and audio. I am slightly embarrassed to say I saw Debbie Reynolds perform there.

I love the Palais and have been to several concerts there over the years. I'm pleased to hear it will be restored. Hopefully they'll do a good job. V.

  6. Wasn't it to be destroyed? I think I remember petitions and demonstrations to save the elegant Old Lady of StKilda beach.

  7. I am sure they will do a good job V. It is just a matter of the State Gov stumping up the money.

Hels, you may right, but I cannot remember that. Part of the triangle project was its restoration. It has been doing better business in the last couple of years than for a long time.

I bet they have built a smokers balconey there for the punters. The original windows still appear to be behind the new ones.

    1. Possible, but I think it is more likely for equipment. I hope the old windows are there and they will reappear.
