Chong World

Melbourne would be ever so much poorer without Rose Chong's costume shop. She has operated her shop in Gertrude Street, Fitzroy for as long as I can remember.

This is a fifteen minute documentary clip which I first saw at Fitzroyalty.

A Rose by any other name. I had the priviledge of meeting the famous Rose Chong a decade ago. Flatmate of my partner worked for her as a costume maker at the time. He decked out quite a few of Melbournes socialites - even made Bob Downes outfits.

  2. Hello Andrew:
An Aladdin's cave! What a wonderful place. But, looking at the film, it is Rose and her team of assistants who are the real stars. If they just had a coffee shop, then there would not be a reason ever to leave!!!

  3. Anon, Bob's powder blue safari suits? She would be well known to celebs I reckon.

JayLa, many such places do have coffee corners now, but you are right, no evidence of one. There are many around the area.

  4. It's a brilliant place and, like you, has been there for as long as I can remember. The coffee shop is just across the road.

  5. Really Christine. It has been a while since I have been there. Working for a living is a drag.
