P En G

Yes, Papua New Guinea, a failed state. One of our old colonies. Perhaps we have some moral responsibility? We certainly don't have a legal one, no matter how much money we waste on propping up the country.

At some point last week, it had two competing but ruling governments, two Prime Ministers, two Governors General. What a mess.

Surely the point of having the Queen as your ultimate ruler means that she must take some responsibility and sort things out. She has stayed silent.

HRH, aka the Queen, needs to bang a few heads together and knock a few blokes out, and appoint some PNG women to sort things out. They couldn't do a worse job, and probably do a much better one. Romantic idealism? I don't think so. From what I know of PNG women, they would be up to the task. I am loath to include religion in the mix, but a few of the ever so sensible and practical missionary nuns might help too

  1. Hello Andrew:
Alas, HM The Queen views her role as Head of State as one which she interprets as remaining silent on all matters of State; sadly her children do not always see the wisdom, on occasion, of this.

  2. Makes me think I wasted my 7 years in P/NG trying to educate them. Somare needs to go. The trouble is Australia pulled out too early due to world pressure. Even the nationals will tell you that.

  3. The nuns would probably do a fantastic job or at least better than the current guys.

  5. The Queens roll is head of state or a symbol if you like and she is very wise to stay out of a countries affairs. If its that bad maybe its time to send in the troops to clean up the mess and rid the country of corruption once and for all :-).

  6. JayLa, you can't leave yourself to wide open for criticism if you say nothing. Mind you, her dinner guests can be questionable at times, such as Mugabe.

Diane, there is no doubt we left too early. Was there really world pressure for us to leave? I can't recall. Anyway, it looks like Somare is out now.

Rubye, a I heard once, the PNG nuns know Rome is long way away from them. They offer birth control advice and condoms.

Victor, one queen is usually enough at one time.

All she costs us Windsmoke, and she can't actually do anything. Sending in the troops would be nice, but it is an independent country, so that would be an invasion.

  7. She's damned if she does (imperialist, interfering, invading) and damned if she doesn't (colonialist, cop-out)!

  8. Red, before she dies, couldn't she do SOMETHING beyond her normal role? Such as stand up for a principle?

  9. Perhaps she's saving it for abdication night!!!

  10. How good would that be Red. To go out on a big bang. She might even publically dis Maggie.
