Happy 100th

Most of the trams that pass the highrise operate from Malvern Tram Depot. The Stonnington Leader newspaper is featuring the depot's 100th anniversary. Will the depot see its 200th? Surely by then we will be able to self transport with our jet powered back packs. I am sure someone in the seventies promised I would be able to by 2000.

  1. What a beautiful building! At first I thought there was a nun standing in the foreground of the photo, until I clicked and had a proper look. I wish people still wore hats on mass, like the early photo.

  2. It is nice LiD. I just checked Heritage Victoria and it is there with some good photos. It has a turret? that is not showing in the the newspaper photo. http://vhd.heritage.vic.gov.au/#detail_places;2138

  3. Yeah, what was it, the 5 million dollar man or something? Oh no, it was at The Royal Melbourne Show in the 70's when I watched (with terror and amazement)a man fly about with a jet pack on. He was an American guy. MY brother and I instantly wanted one of them!

  4. For real Cazzie? How exciting. I suppose if we all had them, we would be crashing into each other and the government would have speed radar pointing into the sky.

  7. Thanks for pointing out the missing turret, Andrew. The local paper chose two images where it was not fitted into the shot. It's great to get a fuller picture from the HV site.
