I consider my blog is ok. It ain't a masterpiece but it is not a dog either. I am happy enough with it.
Your opinions on my blog style as against my blog posts are welcome. I will carefully consider what you say before dumping your opinion in the trash folder.
But there is a question I would welcome some thoughts upon. I label any photo I publish at the top. Most people label at the bottom. For some reason, I think top is better. Maybe because you read down a webpage and you need the information about what you are about to see first, before you see the picture.
But as I said, convention seems to be label photos at the bottom and I had pretty well decided to change. Reinforced by an email from someone requesting some info about someone in one of the photos from last weekend's party. He/she got the name wrong in the email because he/she read caption at the bottom of the photo.
However, then I came across another blog person who labelled the photos the same as I did. I did seem a weird to me, because I am not used that method, even though I do it myself. I am in a quandary.
So, should I top or bottom?

ReplyDeleteAs long as you are consistent within your blog or even each post, I don't think it matters how others do it. After the first label and photo in each post the pattern is set anyway.

I don't pay much attention to blog style. I say as long as your font is not too tiny, and you don't use a font that blends into the background...I'm fine with it.

Thanks all. Only Anon thinks firmly that labels should be at the bottom. I would argue that reading on a screen is relatively new to humans, and so the eyes travel differently than when flipping through a book.
ReplyDeleteI label at the top top too! I thought that people would read blogs differently because of the vertical format, but now I'm not so sure. I always label at the top and usually use a colon to ensure that the reader knows that the picture will follow the caption. I imagine myself giving a slideshow where I announce each pic before it's displayed. For example "Virginia Woolf's House:----". Maybe I'll try the other way next time and see if I like it.

Personally I always caption beneath a photo. Consider it a remenant of my sexlife where the compliments come after the act, never before.

As for the rest of your formatting, I take no umbrage with your particular style. Personally I've picked something a little more dark and moody, because I'm a Melbournian and we all like black, apparently (haw haw haw), but yours works plenty fine enough.
Scott, you liked the word top so much you writ it twice. It must have been your blog with your last London pics where I noticed it. Don't know that I read any white on black blogs but I have seen some good black on white vids.

ReplyDeleteMC, the photos always load at the top of the post. I then cut and paste them where I want them, space them and write a line about what they are. I load all photos to the 'centre'. Works best with this particular blog where the writing area is not wide.
