It is thoroughly gorgeous and has a fascinating history. Some may think it needs a coat of paint, but I love the peeling paint.
While St Kilda has been overtaken by people with money, the state of The George reminds us that St Kilda was very sleazy and that there is still a good bit of the sleaze remaining. But sleaze people, just don't ask me for money or a cigarette. I don't have either. Note the fine photographic tradition of chopping off the top of something continues unabated. Photo was taken on Pride March day.
If you don't know, within The George are businesses, apartments that were sold as shells and a Palace Cinema. Note Rob and Andy to redeem your payola.
It is such a lovely building. Restored it would look wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteIt kind of was restored Cazzie. It is very nice inside, just the outside is peeling paint.
ReplyDeleteIt annoys me...the colour scheme.
ReplyDeleteA good, old fashioned wedding cake of a building.
ReplyDeleteI just love the Moorish-style balconies.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous style *sigh*
ReplyDeleteWasn't really aware it had one Reuben.
ReplyDeleteIt is that Brian, and don't people love them.
Can visualise you Jahteh, standing on a balcony waving to your Arab prince.
Definitely not understated Jayne.
Thanks for the reminder. My mother said that owing to internet bookings, it's important to get in early. Damn technology!
ReplyDeleteNever doubt your mother Rob, but it really depends on what movie you are going to see. The one we saw was in a tiny theatre less than half full.
