Platform 13

While I feel like a second class citizen when I am forced to use Platform 13 at Flinders Street Station, it is quite a nice view from there. The second class citizen feeling is further reinforced by the fact that your train does not travel through the underground rail loop, but then it can be an advantage at times and people who know the system well can make a rail dash to Richmond on the Sandringham train and catch another train at Richmond that they would have otherwise missed.

  2. Platform 13 must be equally as bad as 14. Every time my train arrives into 14 I always miss my connection because of the long hike involved.

  3. There is a platform 14 Ben? I don't feel such a loser now.

  4. Oh there is a 14 alright. I'm pretty sure that most people don't even realise that it exists. That is, until their train abandons them there...

  5. I didn't know that Ben. I suppose it is the other side of platform 13. Actually, I recall being dumped there too and climbing the stairs which must be under Swanston Street.

  8. What you've shown the picture of is platform 11, with its track taken away... once upon a time one would to wait on 10/11 for trains to St Kilda and Port Melbourne, and watch the animated Allens neon sign across the river.

The Sandringham trains come in on platforms 12 or 13 now. Platform 14 is all the way over the other side, an extension of platform 1.

  9. Ah Daniel, I knew someone would pick me up on that, but I wanted to have a whinge about platform 13. Now you mention it, yes I recall 12 and 13 being together. I had no idea where 14 was. I do recall 10 and 11 and the St Kilda red rattlers. The view in that direction back then was awful.
